"Stolen Words" by Melanie Florence. We talked about how the grandfather was punished if he spoke his native language, and how it must have felt to be torn from his family and culture. This led to a discussion about how kids should feel while at school. @PolsonPark_LDSB

Today I introduced the 3/4s to Boom, Clap, Snap! I love using this game to practice the code we've been learning. The kiddos got really into it! 😄 @JRHenPS_LDSB

Today we read "The Day You Begin" and discussed how unique we all are, and also how alike we are too. We have so much in common! Their task was to build the tallest tower with index cards, but they had to write one thing their group had in common before the card could be added!

Happy first day of school everyone! Today was my 15th year starting the school year off at Bayridge. Fourteen years as a student (at both BPS and BSS) and now my first year as a contract teacher. 🎉

Last year my family and I walked in the Kingston Pride Parade. This year we watched! I was so excited to see such a huge limestone contingent. What a turnout! So proud to be a LDSB educator!

Our end of year field trip was a huge success! The kiddos had a blast at the park, gymnastics was fabulous and our pizza party back at Selby was the icing on the cake of a great day! Thanks to all the volunteers who joined us! @selbyschool

Today we cleared out and then planted peppers and herbs in our garden plot! I had such great little helpers! We thought it would be the perfect place to release our butterfly. Aphmau even stuck around for awhile to say hello to everyone! 🦋 @selbyschool

We channeled Andy Goldsworthy today and used natural elements to create beautiful works of art!

Today we used the kiddos' favourite headbands activity with sentences. Ss are working on reading the sentences and their partners are working on writing them down. They also practice explaining our spelling rules (like magic e) to their partners as hints when there are mistakes!
