I say this ALL THE TIME! This is why we focus on our Early Literacy skills @BrowneEC . Those foundational skills are key in ensuring that we have strong readers!
We don’t talk enough about reading comprehension when assessing math skills. A student can’t reason through and solve a math problem if they don’t understand the question.
#MomentsInLeadership
The Weight of Being Watched
Leadership is not just about vision and decision-making. It’s about carrying the burden of constant observation—and the judgment that comes with it.
If you can’t handle being talked about, lied on, or disliked for no clear reason, you’re not ready for leadership.
That may sound cold, but it’s reality.
Public leadership means living under a microscope. Every move you make—and every move you don’t—is noticed, dissected, and often misunderstood.
Who you greet.
Who you ignore.
How you speak.
What you post.
What you don’t post.
All of it will be analyzed. And more often than not, judged without context, without grace, and without delay.
People will project meaning onto your silence, twist your words, and question your motives.
Sometimes innocently.
Sometimes intentionally.
You won’t enjoy it.
You’re not supposed to.
But you must be ready for it.
This is the part of leadership no one puts on flyers. But if you’ve stepped into the role, this part comes with it.
Everything is political.
Not just campaigns.
Not just policy.
Every interaction. Every omission. Every choice you make—or don’t.
So what does this mean for those who lead?
It means you must move with wisdom—not just emotion.
With clarity—not fear.
With principle—not popularity.
It means having the emotional strength to be misunderstood, misquoted, and misrepresented—yet still show up with purpose.
It means holding onto your values while others drag your name.
It means knowing when to listen and when to stand silent.
When to defend yourself, and when to let the truth speak in time.
Leadership is not for the thin-skinned.
It is for those who can carry both the criticism and the calling.
If you're already in this work—or considering it—remember:
The spotlight reveals. The spotlight magnifies.
Sometimes it warms.
Sometimes it burns.
But if your purpose is anchored and your character is unshakable, you can stand in that light—and not lose yourself.
I joined @MayorBowser, @DCPSChancellor, and Ted Leonsis from @MSE at @Browne_ec for District Dribble. Every student received a basketball as we cheered them on for their academic success and encouraged them to work, study, and play hard for the rest of the year.
“Take a look at this 5th grade problem. What skills would students in your class now need to solve this?” LEAP @ Browne is ALWAYS happening!!! Shout out to Coach Weiss and the Elementary Math Team!
Congrats to our top 3 spellers in the Browne Education Campus Spelling Bee.
These 3 winners will compete on Wednesday for the DC wide cluster Bee.
