Conception’s mission is to turn stem cells into human eggs and redefine fertility.
We have an exciting update - we've generated the first early human egg cells derived from stem cells.
🔬 Scientists at @CamPathology @Cam_Repro have grown ‘mini-placentas’ in the lab and used them to see how the placenta develops and interacts with the womb.
🤰 The findings could help scientists better understand - and potentially treat - pre-eclampsia.
Exciting work out today from @MoffettAm485 and collaborators showcasing an innovative application of trophoblast organoids.
Congratulations to all the authors!

The human placenta is unique and shrouded in mystery. Now, samples collected by @MoffettAm485 35 years ago revealed the most detailed account of its invasion of the uterus to date. @IEmSteinmark reports. @nardhygomez @CamPathology @waynestate https://t.co/glM3QYXiRV
We've gotten very close to generating human eggs from stem cells!
Rob Stein from NPR came to @Conception to learn about our process.

What a flurry of excitement #ISSCR2023 ! As exciting as the recent preprints are, let’s be clear: these are not the first human embryo-like models and they won’t be the last. They are also not embryos. Like any model, they are only as good as the questions we ask of them! (1/3)
Lots has been said about the potential + promise of embryo-like models, but what are the challenges and hold-ups? What's still tricky? And what do we need to overcome? 🤔
Very much enjoyed working on this perspective with @RuggGunnLab and Patrick Tam! 🔎 https://t.co/lHBayuTdzD
FMI researchers & collaborators at @sangerinstitute@Cambridge_Uni & @emblebi mapped the full trajectory of placental development—work that could offer insights into pregnancy disorders and help develop better experimental models of the human placenta. https://t.co/X3RgAvv12L
So excited to see our work on mapping human trophoblast in early pregnancy out in @Nature! I had the privilege of working alongside @krobertssci, @ktroule, @fredwck, @MSheridan226 and an incredible team on one of the coolest tissues @sangerinstitute https://t.co/cgomW3lA80
Very excited to start my new position at @Conception tomorrow!! 🎉Can’t wait to dive into this new #research field! Oh and happy to say I am #leavingacademia
Thank you to all my mentors who helped get me here and to all of the beautiful trophoblast I’ve cultured over the years!
