We can't allow ourselves to become numb to mass shootings. What happened today in Minneapolis is heartbreaking, and Michelle and I are praying for the parents who have lost a child or will be sitting at their hospital bedside after yet another act of unspeakable, unnecessary violence.
BREAKING: Donald Trump gets hit right where it hurts most as Nielsen reveals that his inauguration drew far fewer viewers than Joe Biden's did — 24.59 million compared to 33.76 million.
And it gets even better...
Not only did Biden draw more viewers than Trump, Trump himself drew more viewers during his first inauguration. He drew in 30.64 million in 2017.
The figures are drawn from 15 different networks and are an average of the viewership from 10:30 a.m. ET to 7 p.m. ET.
17.4 million of viewers this time were 55 or over. 4.67 million were 35-54 and 1.43 million were 18-34.
Given Trump's well-documented fixation on viewership numbers, this is exactly the kind of thing that gets under his skin.
It turns out that despite electing him again, America is already bored with Donald.
Please retweet and ❤️ to make sure that the MAGA crowd sees these numbers — and consider joining the growing exodus to Tribel, a new pro-democracy social network that is exploding in popularity because Twitter and Facebook are trying to stop its growth — which is only making Tribel grow even faster. 1/ One of President Trump’s first acts was to pardon those convicted in connection with January 6th.
Here are some of the convicted felons he set free:
I served two years in Congress during the first Trump Admin. Here are a few pieces of advice I’m giving to Democrats.
First: Stay focused on the real people being harmed by Trump’s policies. It’s easy for DC politicians to exist in a bubble, but Washington should stay focused on the actual effects of Trump’s policies and Democrats should focus on how we can mitigate the damage.
BREAKING: President Biden delivers a brilliant response to a question about how he'll react when Donald Trump falsely takes credit for all of his accomplishments.
This is what a real leader sounds like...
"What are you going to do when the other guy goes out there bragging about accomplishments under you?" Ben Meiselas of MeidasTouch asked in a new interview.
"The Medicare $2,000 cap, its going to kick in in 2025. He’s going to be out there saying, 'I did this.' How’s that going to make you feel when that happens?" he asked.
"Look: I’ve invested more in red states than in blue states with all these programs we just talked about," said Biden. "The reason for that was that the red states didn’t operate very well, and they really hurt their constituents so those factories closed and the like."
"The fact is that I represent all of America, not just Democrats," the president continued. "And I think what it’s going to do is bring the country more together than separate it."
"And for example, you already have folks like Marjorie Taylor Greene and others saying, 'Don’t eliminate the factory,' after talking about how the proposal to build it was the worst idea anybody’s ever had," Biden continued. "She didn’t vote for it."
"So I think there’s going to be a bit of a comeuppance here but the bottom line is I'm convinced that over time the American public will respond to what is the intention of the party to try to help ordinary people," he went on.
"And the fundamental change I made — and I made a speech at Brookings Institution about it recently — was on the economy," said Biden.
"The fact is that we had a long time this idea of trickledown economics," he said. "Let the wealthy do very, very well. They'll have so much money it'll trickle down on people's kitchen tables and coffee tables and the like and everyone will benefit. I never bought that theory!"
"And so what I've decided to do is to change it to build the economy from the middle out and the bottom up," explained Biden. "The wealthy still do very well but the middle class and the working class people do much, much better.
"And that's exactly what's happening and so I think the long term prospects for the country are very good," he added.
Please retweet and ❤️ if you think that Biden's legacy will far outshine Trump's — and consider joining the growing exodus to Tribel, a new pro-democracy social network that is exploding in popularity because Twitter and Facebook are trying to stop its growth — which is only making Tribel grow even faster. When Trump is at tonight’s Alabama-Georgia game, the Harris campaign has arranged to have a small plane fly over Tuscaloosa with a banner declaring, “Trump’s Punting on 2nd Debate.” https://t.co/xKzdQvJj1B
Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend @KamalaHarris. We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States, and that she has our full support. At this critical moment for our country, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November. We hope you’ll join us.
Bad debate nights happen. Trust me, I know. But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit. Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November. https://t.co/Tn2TQu5Djo
Writer's Block.
A thread for @alixabeth and others. This is not about writing problems in general: procrastination, frustration, stress eating, pain, and so on. It's for when you cannot remember how to write- like there is a gap in your brain- and the whole world goes gray. 1/
A few more thoughts on this tweet that I typed as I was walking off the House floor today, angry and wondering what has become of any semblance of decency among the Republican caucus:
Finally, I will say that one outlet's coverage of the civil trial against Trump has been exemplary: @NewsHour. They devoted several segments to covering the trial as a top news story. They have also interviewed experts on aspects of psychology + rape, including victim-blaming.
@GovRonDeSantis Says the guy who has never spent a day in the classroom. Your lack of empathy & understanding for teachers & students is astounding. I hate that u r the gov of the state I have lived in my entire life. U don’t care about ppl. To u, we are just pawns in ur political chess game.
@GovRonDeSantis Why is FL the only state that didn’t pre-order the vaccine for the under 5 age group? Stop using children's safety as a political prop and make the vaccine available as soon as possible. Almost 500 children under 5 have died from Covid. Not to mention long Covid
Do your Senators support these common sense measures?
☎️ Call and ask them.
Here’s the Senate directory, just choose your state, and it will give you Senators’ office phone number. https://t.co/f68G2gSgx8
