The piece highlights the significance of the R21/Matrix-MTM vaccine, which has exhibited promising efficacy in preventing malaria cases, particularly among vulnerable populations in high transmission areas.

With backing from the @WHO and @gavi, efforts are underway to ensure fair access to the vaccine in malaria-endemic regions.

@Ifakarahealth scientists are joining forces with key players in the fight against #malaria in Africa at the 8th Pan-African Malaria Conference in Kigali, Rwanda. They aim to explore this year's theme, "Grassroots Mobilization to End Malaria: Invest, Innovate & Integrate."

A notable side event had seasoned scientists from @Ifakarahealth take part in a symposium organized by @MalariaAtlas titled: Modeling for Malaria Decision Making in Africa: Enhanced Technical Support and Capacity Strengthening. 💻📊🌍

High non-medical costs for chronic disease patients in Tanzania

🔍 In a study published on @BMJ_Open by scientists from @SwissTPH and @Ifakarahealth, it has been found that accessing healthcare in rural Tanzania 🇹🇿 comes with significant financial burdens for patients with chronic conditions.

📊 Conducted between November 2020 and January 2021, the study highlights that the costs of seeking healthcare often exceed the minimum daily income, posing challenges for patients.

🗨️ The scientists recommend addressing the high non-medical costs faced by chronic disease patients seeking healthcare in Tanzania through policy reforms to improve the availability and quality of care in dispensaries and health centers which could reduce the costs.

🦟 MALARIA RESEARCH:
How timing influences mosquito resistance to insecticides

⏲️ Timing matters in the battle against mosquito resistance to insecticides; that’s why scientists @ifakarahealth, @LSHTM and other partners recommend their consideration when planning #malaria studies.

🔍 In their study, published on the Parasites & Vectors journal, they underline the significance of timing when testing insecticides after experiments conducted using the @WHO’s cone bioassays method showed that mosquitoes resistant to insecticides had lower mortality rates when exposed in the evening compared to daytime.

🧬 But why does timing matter? The study points to mosquito biology, as they exhibit different responses to insecticides depending on the time of day, underscoring the importance of understanding their biology for effective #malaria control strategies.
