Perhaps the nerdiest 5th gr. teacher on the planet. Space Camp alum. Maker. Art, photography, NASA, road trips. Has written for Scholastic. Started #msmakertech
Two pages of notes & lots of laughter. LOVED hearing @BrianMendler! So much about what he said is true!
If you are taking applications for a new best friend, I would like to be considered.

Remember when heading back:
1. Not all kids had a great summer.
2. Avoid power struggles at all costs.
3. Don’t take behavior personally.
4. 2nd to last word is best.
5. Don’t hold grudges.

Teachers: Please recommend a free site where my students can record a story which can be accessed via QR codes on an outdoor trail with iPads. Each page will have its own unique QR code.
Needless to say, @SteveSpangler , you have inspired my students and me in monumental ways to love science! For years, you have come up on my big screen to my 4th and 5th grade S’s delight. They loved your atomic slime at Halloween. You are a legend. #GYTOxOrlando#getyourteachon
We just had to come up with self-affirmations to honor ourselves and our health— mine is “I am strong, I am passionate, I am happy.” We then said— “I will invest in me to show up as my best self.” #getyourteachon
Something I learned this morning from Sarah Thomas (founder of Burn Fat and Feast) at #getyourteachon is about honing your “why” in choosing to show up for yourself. Dig into the layers of your “why” five times.
I have a #teacherblogger question, #edutwitter. What kind of weblog do you have? I re-established my Blogspot, but I may switch to Wordpress on my domain because there is more freedom. Is there a really good one that decreases spam? I appreciate your comments in advance.
I know it has been a while since I have posted, but I have a new handle-- msjasztal. I am back in 4th grade and wanted a more generic handle that I can identify with, no matter which grade I teach. =)
Dr. King's greatness cannot be understated. He believed that science was an arena in which minorities could make significant contributions. As the first Black American CEO of @msichicago, it is one of my greatest honors to represent a measure of his envisioned progress.
Sat. reflections: You have conquered yet another week. Next week will be fresh and new. You possess a TREMENDOUS innate power to inspire your Ss. Be authentic. You matter, your family matters, and your school/classroom family matters. You're incredible, dear heart! #edutwitter
@kelley_branch_ That's quite thought-provoking... and as educators, hopefully we are always re-evaluating what we are doing and saying. Thank you for sharing this.
Kids love superheroes because they make the world a better place.
When we add #ProblemSolving to our classroom, we help our kids become super!

@IleneWinokur It did not type properly and put in a word I did not intend to type- lol. 😅 I really like how you said “celebrate improvements”. This is uncharted territory for many, and innovation is what students need from the constant changes surrounding them to think divergently/creatively.
@heymrsbond I did something similar yesterday, @heymrsbond. Even if a S is missing one assignment, I wanted all of my distance learning Ss to receive the gift of time. Admins give teachers time, and teachers should give students time, too.
