@theDRAMAgoat1 Maybe make a little desk essentials kit? Chapstick, lotion, hand sanitizer, Kleenex, Tylenol, Tums, mints, and maybe some chips and chocolate?
My principal started opening and looking through my cupboards when I said I didn’t have space to house the curriculum books I don’t plan on using. I asked, “Are you really checking to see if I’m lying?” So when she says “assume positive intentions,” I guess that’s only about her.
@ballardam It’s just a way to devalue our experience. Instead of looking to veterans as experts with a wealth of knowledge to share, they treat veterans as rigid and out of touch. This way no teacher ever gets to be valued- too young and inexperienced or too old and washed up.
@srahensley@danielsobczak@jedipadmaster I feel this conflict. I need my space to be organized to be most effective. This year I pleaded to not have to move rooms- it took me 20hrs when I moved 1.5yrs ago. Not only do I have to move but I found out via a whole staff email. Not putting in any extra time out of principle.
@sage_stage Create checks and balances within the power hierarchy to create some stability in schools even with the comings and goings of leadership every 3 years or so. Teachers and staff, especially veterans, should have significant voice in matters directly affecting them.
@DavisLaughlin@MarcusLuther6 Exactly. Teachers are professionals and experts in our fields. We need the trust and autonomy to make decisions that work for OUR students, not for a generic collective. Administrators who ask for complete fidelity a) don’t understand the learning & b) don’t trust their teachers.
@RAD_is_awesome This is one of my biggest pet peeves. When you decide to follow the line it’s students first, parents second, admin third, office staff fourth, and way down the list is teachers last. So who is advocating for the teachers?
@gledbetter9@sage_stage Disagree. Having worked in a Title One school for almost 20 years the “advanced” and hard working students are rarely on the same level as advanced or even average students at affluent schools. They deserve a teacher who can push them so they can be competitive in their futures.
@sage_stage I mean…. You get what you pay for, right? I know it doesn’t look good but what makes me most upset about these kinds of things is when the kids who are trying their hardest to climb out of poverty lose their chances because we’re spending so much energy on kids who don’t care.
@FixingEducation@huntoon23 Don’t forget waiting in line for the microwave (5-7 min) and then waiting for your food to warm up (2 min). You now have 8 minutes to enjoy your lunch. Kid free. Well except for the ones camped out in your class during lunch.
@youre_gimbels@APeterJames@lukeoneil47 What’s horseshit. The fact that we’ve been dealing with wildfires & smoke inhalation for years? Or you assigned the pronoun “they” to yourself? If it doesn’t apply to you, then no need to be angry. But we both know people are trying to stop it from going in books and into policy.
