Presenting on behalf of the Portfolio Committee on Primary and Secondary Education, Hon. Supa Mandiwanzira revealed that 49,555 learners dropped out of school in 2024, a figure that raises serious concern about access and retention in the education system. He highlighted that the shortage of learning facilities remains a major challenge, with an estimated 2,000 additional schools required across the country to meet growing demand. The Committee noted that inadequate infrastructure, long distances to schools, and economic hardships are key contributors to the dropout rate. Hon. Mandiwanzira underscored the need for increased investment in education infrastructure to ensure every child enjoys their right to quality and inclusive education.
