@TeresaGaines@LieslMcconchie Teacher absences are through the roof b/c everyone is so sick. We got a letter that our daughter had been out for 5 days. Her teachers were out so much more than that. Our daughter masks so was sick once this school year. We kept her home for a short week during the winter surge.
@MeetJess I was so grateful to contribute my voice to this article. I’m the mom w/ the 6th grader in CA. As of January, kids with COVID are to come to school as long as they don’t have a fever. Which isn’t a measure of contagion. It’s so scary for families like mine - immunocompromised.
They have the power to require Covid + students mask until day 10 or two negative tests and they are choosing not to.
They either think COVID is NBD or they don’t want to deal with the pushback. Either is terrifying for an educational organization. 4/4

After significant & vulnerable advocacy with our daughter’s charter school system on #IAQ
& asking that #Covid + students be required to mask, we received notice today that they will not be changing their policy. 1/x

My husband is immunocompromised. I have #LongCovid
The charter’s purported values are equity and inclusion.
I am beyond devastated and my faith in humanity continues to be rocked. Not great for an MSW. 3/x
At our meeting yesterday, the school CEO offered me the contact of the epidemiologist they consulted with who told them students + with #covid19 didn't need to wear masks. I declined because #science. I wish @michael_hoerger or @EricTopol was their contact. #CovidIsAirborne
Can you help me out? Do you work at a school or have children in school (public, private, charter) in California who have either not adopted the CADPH #COVID19 "guidelines" or have but are requiring student positive for #COVID to mask?
#CovidIsNotOver#COVIDisAirborne
I’ve got a meeting with the CEO and COO of our school on Fri to discuss my dismay about their adoption of the CADPH “guidance” stating students who are positive for COVID-19 can come to school.

@jest4G @FashionableRes1 I am certain that is true. I also feel like I need to make sure I leave nothing on the floor in my efforts to keep our family and others safe. I will be able to sleep better I did all I could.
@AshleyGWinter I had an unmedicated birth. I wanted to be acutely aware and participate in every moment of that life changing experience. It was the most empowering thing I have ever done. Every woman I know who has had an unmedicated birth shares something similar. To each their own.
@TMore81420140@TeacherMom365 I am giving it in person and will be masking. I am also asking them to mask. Mu husband and I are both immunocompromised.
This would be very delightful just to watch them squirm.
@DonotInnovate @LieslMcconchie This is so wise. I am the same way. Part of me wants to bury them in data like a big law firm to a small town lawyer but I know they wouldn't read it.
@TeacherMom365 This is correct. Student and staff can come to school with COVID-19. Love the idea of informing us. My daughter is the only one who masks in her middle school.
I’m armed with facts, science, and personal experience. I’ll have a limited amount of time. Happy to receive all suggestions and encouragement.
Thank you!

My ultimate goal is to get them to revise their decision. Next, I want them to enforce masks for folks who are positive through 10 days.
Our school claims to be based on values of equity and inclusion. This policy leaves behind our most vulnerable.
