@RutgersAltRoute A5 In the future, being more explicit that students can revise work after it has been graded for improvement will help my students succeed. I do say they are allowed to revise in my classroom policy overview, but I believe I need to be more explicit. #altrted#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A4. Reflection questions I ask: If you could do this project again, what would you do differently? Where were you successful? What was challenging? What did you like best? #altrted#artchat#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A3- We reflect after every project and I ask what they would do differently if they tried again. I will in the future include student selected goals, so that they can measure how they progress where it feels important to them #altrted#growthmindset
@nic_west23 @RutgersAltRoute Yes!!! Not yet is such a good phrase. In my class we don't start talking about a piece of art saying 'well this isn't very good/I wasn't good at this, etc.' We often discuss the process and what we learned for next time.
@RutgersAltRoute A2 Teachers can display and talk about how anyone can learn, should give examples with good facts and data often. They should also display openness to feedback and learning themselves. I often tell students about new things I'm trying, failures & successes #altrted#growthmindset
@RutgersAltRoute A1 - Fixed mindsets I students can make it more challenging for them to accept feedback which they perceive as criticism, and they can be less likely to try new things for fear of not being good #altrted
@RutgersAltRoute A5 #altrted#sped consistency is key, but flexibility and understanding are also important. Working with students to help them advocate for and understand themselves, and figure out the ways they work best is a function of a good educator.
@RutgersAltRoute My room is organized, I allow for movement around the room (work at your desk or a standing/stool table in the center of the room.) Working collaboratively and asking questions is encouraged. I also offer extra time during lunch for all students, and after school #altrt#sped
A3 #altrted#sped#artchat in my art room, it helps to have exact steps for creating, but to allow students to alter the order of operation/creating depending on what works best for them (this can be achieved through observation and conversation)
A2 #altrted#sped laying out expectations on both sides can be helpful. Spending some one on one time right away to understand how your students beat communicate can be the biggest key.
@EastlackTracy@RutgersAltRoute I like that you point out that the accommodation could benefit all students as well! It's not just 'another thing to do'
Time for Question 1! Reflect on your experience to answer the Q1.

Motivating students to complete practice w/o grades can be tough.
Here are 4 tips:
1) give choice
2) make the learning & practice meaningful
3) show examples of student success because of practice
4) facilitate regular discussion about learning, practice, assessment, & #grading
@RutgersAltRoute I find that talking to parents can help understand the cause of bullying. Also letting students who are the victim know that you see what is happening and it is not ok, letting them know you will support them (and showing them by your actions.) #AltRtEd#standuptobullying
@RutgersAltRoute Collaborate w/ other members of your subject team, but also others outside of your subject. I find calling counselors and case workers helps to round out my understanding of what could be going on in my classroom. It's important to understanding your students' dynamics. #AltRtEd
@RutgersAltRoute I am mostly low tech in my parents engagement and tend to make calls home when I need to. Parents sometimes choose to reach out via email for communication instead. I also have a website and all parents are invited to our Google Classroom #altrted#standuptobullying
