@MarkCranfield_ Just read an interview with one of Switzerland's leading climate scientists (Prof. Reto Knuttli) in one of our largest newspapers and he said that "once we've achieved net zero, global temperatures will remain stable thereafter".

All I could do was laugh in despair....

2 milligrams of fentanyl would be 0.00000263% of my body composition, yet it will kill me. Do people really not realize how stupid this take is?

[Gary Conway @gazcon]

Some basic scientific facts for you.

CO2 is 0.04% of our atmosphere.

Mankind's entire CO2 emissions are just 3% of that (0.0012%).

The UK's entire CO2 emissions are just 1% of that (0.0000012%).

CO2 is harmless plant food, not the planet's climate control knob.

This tweet, from Suno’s lead investor, will surely be used in court one day.

She says she has shifted her listening from Spotify to Suno. *This is a direct admission that Suno competes with the music it trains on.*

This is exactly the kind of competition that Judge Chhabria, in Kadrey v. Meta, said could lead to AI companies losing copyright lawsuits: AI products “helping to enable the rapid generation of countless works that compete with the originals”.

The fourth factor affecting fair use decisions - and the one Chhabria says is most important - is the effect of the copying (here, the training) on “the potential market for or value of” the copyrighted work.

Suno’s lead investor here provides evidence that Suno displaces demand for the music it is trained on.

She even specifically says she uses it as a replacement for the music the *record labels* release - the very companies suing Suno.

It is clear to any rational observer that AI music models, trained on copyrighted music without permission, will harm that music’s market & value. But it is still pretty shocking to see Suno’s lead investor admit as much.

[Adam Neely @its_adamneely]

To the technocapitalist, a musician’s value is based on how cost effectively they can create a product that people consume.

To them, GenAI is more efficient than humans at creating consumable products, therefore, it is better at music.

the natural conclusion of free markets

[Adam Neely @its_adamneely]

Lead investor of Suno confirming that people who use Suno stop listening to all music that they don't create themselves on-app.

Commercial genAI creates cultural isolation, sold to consumers as "personalization."

[Petr Brzek @PetrBrzek]

Journalist: What material did you use to train the model?
China: Yes.

We basically choose our leaders via rap battle, then wonder why they’re better at performance than governance.

[MSP21432 @msp1406]

Hey @Spotify how can I stop a stupid AI slop "artist" from appearing in my release radar every damn week? Blocking the artist doesn't work. "Excluding from my taste profile" doesn't work either (clicked it like a dozen times already). I don't want this shit in there.

@VBkramnik if there was ever a time for you to shut the fuck up, it's now. Log off for a few days and reflect on your behavior towards him over the last couple of months

As a player, person and steward of our club, there’s truly nobody like Lia Walti.

Across seven years and 183 appearances, we made history together.

Thank you for everything, Wally ❤️

[Alexia AFC ❤️🤍🦋 @Alexiamazing]

The state of all Arsenal fans after the Lia Wälti announcement shows that she wasn’t only one of our greatest players but one of our best person, an ultimate role model and legend.
This just shows how much everyone loved her and how much we will continue to support her

I want everyone on this website to think very carefully about this graph and then consider whether or not you need to reorder your priorities at all.

Here's a big-picture geopolitical thread on Israel's war on Iran - its possibilities, impossibilities, dynamics, and delusions. My goal is to give you a full big-picture view in one place, which is why this is a long thread. If you prefer drip-fed updates, skip this thread.

Hey @Blickch
finds ja super, dass ihr euch der Fake Ads Thematik annehmt. Dann solltet ihr aber auch sicherstellen, dass ihr selbst nicht von solchen Ads profitiert ;). Würde mal ein Wörtchen mit Teads reden.

April 2025 was the second-warmest on record, with global temperatures remaining over 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. We've crossed the 1.5°C Rubicon— likely no turning back—tipping points loom. Mitigation is no longer optional; it's urgent. #ActNow

The globalization of news has made the whole world’s problems our problem, fostering a sense of powerlessness that’s led many to redefine morality from “doing good” to merely “feeling bad”.

C. S. Lewis noted this in his 1946 letter to Bede Griffiths:

[Chris Bakke @ChrisJBakke]

I know several people who left big tech around 2022 to go try their hand at blue collar businesses.

All but 1 are now back in big tech.

I nod earnestly when I tell them “yeah who knew that cash flowing a laundromat in Sacramento would be harder than earning $236,000 and a 20% annual bonus for checking 17 slack messages per day?”
