Cross-curricular instruction might require you to think outside of the box, but it's worth it! What a creative way to combine two (seemingly) different subjects!

Musical note composing and programming with CodeHS! Exposing students to how Computer Science can be used cross curricular! @LucasClamp @RBHSGators @CodeHS
Using a cross-curricular approach to instruction by integrating CS skills in "traditional" subject areas will help engage students in their learning *and* give them opportunities to make connections they might not have made previously. #FRIT7234Summer24
Create your own visual pattern…
Record your pattern in a table…
Graph your data…
Is your pattern growing? Shrinking? Repeating?
Is there a linear relationship?
What might your kids do? Are you ready to be surprised???
Concepts like abstraction and decomposition are important skills in all subject areas if we want to encourage critical thinking and reasoning skills. Hands-on approaches allow students to physically and mentally manipulate information. #FRIT7234Summer24
We are practicing our math talk by explaining to each other how we decomposed a number!! I love hearing their brains working in so many different ways✨ #FISDElevate@LiscanoElem
@nganttski I tell my students that test writers are "really mean" because they give us useless information to confuse and slow us down. Explicitly teaching abstraction/decomposition is necessary for helping students with word problems...especially struggling readers! #FRIT7234Summer24
Love this movement based activity to get students working together to debug! Helping students gain confidence by encouraging them to persevere is SO important when introducing frustrating concepts like debugging! #FRIT7234Summer24
@AbbeyHJ12 I love this! Hands-on activities like this are so important for those little learners to practice these skills since so much of this content is foreign to them!
This goes hand in hand with the "Engineered Inequity" reading. A large percentage of our society is finding themselves "locked out" of the discussion on tech. #FRIT7234Summer24
This is about how we understand ourselves as a society.
AI is regressive and draws on a disproportionately white and male group of creators.
A too-liberal legal framework reinforces those inequities and excludes marginalised groups.
It is so important that we teach our students to think critically about the technology they consume! Creating critically thinking consumers will influence the way technology is created. #FRIT7234Summer24
@AbbeyHJ12 Now I'm going down a rabbit hole! I mean, it makes total sense to me. Think about how our social media's create our perfect algorithm and present things to us that, based on their calculations, we'll like. That is wild! #FRIT7234Summer24
Dancing is a great way to teach coding and algorithms. Algorithms are a set of instructions, just like the instructions for a dance. By challenging the children to write their algorithm for a dance, they are effectively writing code!

@AbbeyHJ12 I so agree! I love finding new ways to relate to my students and make learning more accessible to them. Excited to use Scratch to help teach sequence of events! #FRIT7234summer24
This is so cool! Giving students the ability to animate stories of their own creation could help improve interest and engagement in narrative writing. #FRIT7234Summer24
AI can generate new ideas, provide real time feedback, and even collaborate on projects. Pushing the boundaries of what is possible in creative fields…
