Dedicating today's graduation from @Harvard_Law and anything else I might achieve in life to my dad. Over the past few months, my dad just couldn't get enough of talking about me graduating Harvard and how it would make him the world's happiest dad. He would say how he couldn't..

He included the darkest heartbreaks because ironically, that’s exactly what made the World Cup win carry the weight of 10.
It’s not just that he won the World Cup. Lamine Yamal’s World Cup, for example, isnt memorable, because there’s no substance behind it. It was never just about flexing the World Cup.
I was there when Peckerman denied Messi his chance to save his country just because of his age
I was there to see the same people that kiss his feet now, spit on his name and burn his jersey 10 years ago.
I was there when everyone’s 1% hope finally hit 0 when he lost to France in 2018
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg
You start digging into Messi’s World Cup just a little and instead you get to know that man’s entire life.
And that cringy quote about a dying star burning its brightest in its final moments was proven true in the summer of 26.
Messi’s story with the Argentina national team is the greatest sport story ever told
❤️🩹🇦🇷 Leo Messi: “Dad, you kept asking me to play in one last World Cup… just days before it began was when your condition got worse”.
“It was the first time you weren’t going to be there with me at tournament… but Mom kept telling me you were going to get better and that you’d be well enough to travel”.
“I kept telling you we were going to reach the World Cup final so you could make the trip, this was my mission once again”.
“After every match, I waited for and missed your message. That’s when I realized how serious the situation really was”.
“I couldn’t stop thinking about going as far as possible, give you more time and the chance to watch one of the games”.
“We reached the final, but you couldn’t be there. I wanted to win it so I could bring the trophy to you and show you another one. I couldn’t”.
“My legs just couldn’t give me any more”.
“This time I tried to push beyond what my body could handle, but I couldn’t”.
“I never managed to feel physically right”.
“We didn’t become champions Dad, but you have no idea how much we enjoyed every match. Once again, you were right: I had to be there and play in it… as you told me, always”.

🚨🗣️New: Lionel Messi on why he started crying after receiving the silver medal despite the World Cup final defeat to Spain:
“I wasn’t just thinking about losing a final. I was thinking about everything that brought me here… every sacrifice, every difficult moment, every time people doubted us, and every time this shirt gave me the strength to continue.
“When I heard the Argentina fans chanting my name after the defeat, that was the moment that broke me. We had just lost the biggest game, but they didn’t turn their backs on us. They didn’t see a silver medal… they saw the journey. They saw the heart, the fight, and the pride we gave them.
“I looked into the stands and I saw families who travelled thousands of miles, people who dreamed with us, people who cried with us. That love is bigger than any trophy. Football gives you many victories, but moments like that remind you why you play.
“I cried because I felt the weight of the shirt, the love of my country, and the responsibility of wearing this badge. A medal can be silver, but the memories, the connection with the people, and the pride of representing Argentina… those things are priceless.
“Sometimes football gives you the perfect ending, and sometimes it gives you a painful chapter. But I learned that greatness is not only measured by lifting trophies. It is also measured by how you stand when your heart is broken.
“And hearing Argentina sing my name after losing a World Cup final… that was a victory of another kind. I will carry that moment with me forever.”

How VC scout cheques really work
I scout for @a16z - arguably the most helpful fund in existence. But what does it really mean? Most founders think they're getting "VC money" when a scout writes a check. Nope - the mechanics are a bit stranger.
Here's how it actually runs:
1. One person signs off, on their own
There's no investment committee for a scout check. The scout backs you with their own conviction, which is why they can move in days while the fund itself takes weeks. I met @elu after they DM'd me on IG - we went for a walk, and I invested the same day - first cheque. They've now gotten into a16z speedrun.
2. The check is small, the signal is the whole point
The dollars are tiny next to a real round. What you're buying as a founder is a name in a big fund's system, attached to someone whose judgmeent they trust. That foot in the door is the actual asset. The scouts are also incredibly useful people in their own rights - e.g.some of my scout friends include: @gabriel1 at OpenAI (a16z), Zach Gleicher at Anthropic (Sequoia Capital), @lukeharries at ElevenLabs (a16z), @forwarddeploy at xAI (a16z), Mahmoud Serewel https://t.co/iSqjVwaDZo (BCV), @KielakKacper at Magic (a16z) etc.
3. Scouts are carry-aligned, so they're picky
A scout only makes money if the company works years later. So they back founders they'd happily defend in a room full of partners. Anyone writing you a scout check is putting their own track record behind you. I backed Fundamental at first round when the company was valued at ~$50M - it's now worth $1.2B -> nice
4. It's a farm system for the Series A (and sometimes seed)
Scout deals get watched. Scouts help founders build a relationship with the fund they scout for. The fund is quietly buying an option to lead your next round once you've proven something. Getting scouted is the audition for the real money. I invested in @ariel_harmoko, then invited him to a dinner with andreessen partners, and they decided to back him right after.
5. Founder conviction moves first, metrics second
The yes usually comes from a direct read on the founder, long before the numbers slide makes sense. @josiahsenu (cross-border payments rails) and @andreamichi (depthfirst) were pre-product founder-first decisions - both of them now have insane metrics.
The world's data centers can't move fast enough. We build the agents to fix that.
Today Build launches with $8.5M from @IndexVentures, @Pebblebed (co-founders of OpenAI and Meta AI Research) and angels including the CFO of OpenAI and CTO of Blackstone.
It's time to Build.
Today, we’re announcing that we’ve closed our Series C and raised $100M to continue automating the world’s most complex phone calls.
We grabbed some guy named Paul to talk about it because nobody else in the office wanted to. 🧵
The disrespect Shakur is getting for not wanting to jump straight to 147 is bizarre to me - he just jumped from 135 to 140 to take on a p4p fighter, if he doesn't jump straight from that to 147 for another p4p fighter he's ducking? Lol
