@Ms_PEnglish @heymrsbond That implies that their parents understand social media. Similar reasons for we started teaching high schoolers about sex. Their parents weren't.
@heymrsbond I cover SM literacy in my public speaking class. College level, but I always take a day to talk about just this as well as the way back machine, the fact that Twitter is in the Library of Congress, and how their phones track them. It's not anti-anything. Just facts.
When we disconnect the education of storytellers from the products we love, we all lose. You can't claim that a performance degree is a waste of money the whole time you're binge-watching Supernatural for the 4th time.
The storytelling industry is massive and one of the single most frequent interactions in most people's day to day lives. YouTube, streaming services, books and stories, social media, and advertising all fall in this category. It is a job market.
Community colleges are the great education equalizers. We are balancing trade and transfer. Now to fully embrace the arts and storytelling and we will be a total package.
@ClassIssuesInWR@GiftedTawk @HelenBaumander That's too bad. Most US community colleges are a great mix of academic transfer courses and trade education/certification. I love the diversity of our students and faculty, our campus, and our community partnerships!
@DonkeyShaunJr @ElectricAdri My preference is to design assignments that make plagiarism difficult. My institution uses detection software but not the insanely priced one. We confer degrees and that is based on an expectation of work completed according to the guidelines.
@DonkeyShaunJr I am honestly not sure what you're asking. Proper citation isn't plagiarism. I'm not sure what you mean by "no better way or better question to ask."
