1/ Bravo to @pmarca for spelling out his thoughts on techno-optimism. It is clarifying and self-consistent...
...but I think incomplete in an important way. What is
missing I covered in my history of precision in manufacturing, here:https://t.co/l4SYuSU3JE
@jendziura Except the frustration induced by my children, that one’s physical like a brick to the teeth. Otherwise, same, and it’s indeed very practical.
Common mistake I see around this time every year: the prizes in physics, medicine, literature, peace and chemistry are NOT real Sveriges Riksbank Prizes in Memory of Alfred Nobel. They're "Nobel Prizes." They're fine too I guess but people should know the difference.
@jackinlondon @JusDayDa@Noahpinion @jockhigh Thank you!
I first thought about the difference between getting hit by a brick and a drop of water at equal speeds, but that's because they decelerate at impact, whereas a car doesn't.
Mass only matters when the other object isn't (that much) more massive than the human!
I don't enjoy all of Picasso's work (and I know nothing about art), but a neat thing about Picasso is that you can be sure that no matter how weird it gets, every line, every dot looks *exactly* like he wanted it to.
He learned all the rules first.
This is him at 15yo:
