If I had to describe my work, I come from a tradition of model builders. These models apply to condensed matter physics, statistical physics, cold atoms and quantum optics. We seek to calculate their physical properties, often, but not always, exactly. It is a great adventure.
@QuantumHall Yes, Kuperberg's proof is great for several reasons. And who could have foreseen back in 1982 that Korepin's domain wall boundary conditions would be so important in this way. Hopefully I can get to this conference too.
RIP Hans van Leeuwen (1932-2024)
"... an entire generation of younger statistical physicists was influenced and inspired by their interactions with him... . In Hans, we lose not only a colleague but also a guiding figure, mentor, and friend."

During the @AipCongress in Melbourne, @IOPPublishing hosted a dinner last night for IOPP journal Editorial Board Members.
I attended in my capacity as Editor-in-Chief of @CQGravity.
It was wonderful to meet Michele Dougherty (3rd on right), President-Elect of @PhysicsNews

Ian Affleck 1952-2024. Ian was my office mate, tennis partner, and good friend when we were Harvard graduate students. We were particle theorists then, but Ian is best remembered for his many deep contributions to quantum condensed matter. A great loss.
