Indiana Gov. Mike Braun wants to eliminate property taxes for seniors and those who have paid off their mortgage.
This is the same state government that removed tax relief for first time homeowners in a property tax bill last year because it would have allegedly harmed local schools.
Yet under this proposal, Braun would pay zero dollars in property taxes on his huge, nearly 10,000 square foot home with hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxpayer-funded improvements.
The hypocrisy & hatred of young adults here is insane.
It’s incredibly anti-family.
@Suburban_Bloke@pubIicpessimist Compare the property tax rates of Lebanon and Frankfort. Both similarly sized county seat communities in central Indiana. I would say both offer a comparable amenity portfolio. Look at the difference in the rates. I’m been watching these trends for the last decade.
@Suburban_Bloke@pubIicpessimist Property tax rates are generally higher in rural areas. The total amount paid may be lower since home values are lower (less demand to live there). Despite these higher rates they typically have less amenities provided. I’m sure there are exceptions but generally true.
@PierceForIN And don’t forget about his millions of dollars for ad spend. A well-funded, well spoken sane Democrat in a good environment for them shouldn’t be underestimated. Buckle up.
Bad take. @PierceForIN you are underestimating how challenging the environment will be for the GOP this Fall. It reminds me of 2006. Dems have the first real shot to win a statewide office since 2016 (Gov before Trump picked Pence as VP). GOP in-fighting doesn’t matter to Dems.
Here is the reality… Beau’s whole Democrat nomination in the convention could be in trouble if Diego drops.
I’ve talked with Democrats, Beau doesn’t have it locked up, and this could hurt his campaign.
If his delegates think it’s futile, some will start asking why not nominate his opponent who has been around for much longer.
@PierceForIN The Fall environment is what matters. The Dem delegates can discern that Beau gives them a better shot in the fall than Potter. Now you’re underestimating Beau. You don’t think the scion of one of the most prominent Dem political families in Indiana won’t be able to pivot?
@TannerBouchie No reason for that. Bayh’s legacy name has more benefit to them statewide instead of in a congressional district that has many newer residents to Indiana that have no connection with the Bayh name.
In fairness, the one party guy who publicly said out loud long ago Diego was a complete piece of garbage and gots to go was @mtgent. Credit where credit is due.
Holli Sullivan watching all the Indiana GOP SoS drama over the last 36 hours…
If anyone else has come to agree with my opinion that all Statewide candidates should be elected by actual voters; just raise your hand.

I wrote a piece for the @indystar on how our Indiana cities and towns can benefit from data centers when done right — strong community payments, infrastructure upgrades, and growth that pays for growth.
Read it here: https://t.co/0VQ6h4Dpvc
@Kalbob23@RobMKendall You should actually read the article. That’s not what the article is about. It’s about how communities can strategically use their investment to the community’s benefit.
No team-playing Republican was saying this about Diego Morales a week ago. I’d be interested in hearing exactly when and how Morales crossed the line from suitable to unsuitable and how that standard might apply to other candidates and office-holders.
@Kalbob23@indystar Utility costs in Lebanon aren’t going up because of Meta and Lilly. Without them we would have seen a doubling of our water bills. That’s why it’s critical for local leaders to push data centers to pay for the all infrastructure upgrades.
