@MountainRoche You will get better! I’m sure it was scary as you started to orient to what happened. Had this same experience with a college student turning left in front of me many years ago. Knocked out 3 of my front teeth, broke my hand and had a concussion. If only you knew a lawyer 😉
@Alan_Couzens I’d love to hear your thoughts on year-round specificity/high intensity for high school endurance running athletes. I hate to see it but the perception is their college chances depend on this. It seems like many absorb it which makes it reinforcing, (for now) + social pressure
@GregLehman Shouldn’t we be trying to appease the structure’s/nervous system’s/whole organism’s desire and purpose for movement despite the various local tissue changes that are inevitable through living?
@GregLehman Performed in enough quantity with insufficient recovery parameters, just about any activity could theoretically cause “future pain/damage” so I’d be reluctant to completely avoid such activity but would be mindful to frequency/loading, same as with supposedly healthy tissue
@drpetertierney Tissue capacity to work matters much. I wish there could be more research on routine soft tissue massage/myofascial release/dry needling for their possible ability to decrease cramping incidence. My experience w/ many athletes is that they are related. CNS rules/changes over time
@NickIlic_Physio@JonCM13 Some patients need to fixate on routine soft tissue work when they have poor compliance to alter underlying causes of sensitization (excess volume, weakness) I’d rather someone regularly self treat the whole muscle than ignore and alter function, especially if a theme long term
@eLLiejG Muscles misbehave when they become chronically overused across a longer bout of time or simply heavily fatigued in a shorter time. Routine soft tissue work/MFR to the entire foot/calf is helpful to diminish tone. If it needs relaxed quickly I often see success w/ dry needling.
@neurorehabguy I imagine they personally responded well to this type pressure when they were a student? I once had an instructor threaten to fail me. As a pretty decent student it was an unnecessary threat and ultimately led to that clinic being removed from the site list for a couple years.
@JohnBlacko Makes sense in a way though. Less neuromuscular efficiency and economy in a less familiar pattern of movement. Typically all the heart rate zones are lower in a bout of cycling vs running so you would have adjust for that
@TheHipPhysio I always say I’m a terrible “real” runner. Without the trails and forest and a feeling of at least seeking occasional adventure my motivation to train and race is limited. Level of stimulation matters. The trick is finding what brings you joy, right?
@JohnBlacko Structurally, yes, for sure. Depending on your fitness and routine mileage and typical intensity the cardiorespiratory stresses could swing either way
@karagoucher Watched “The Weight of Gold” last night. Sad to know some folks never make it through with the ability to look back on their Olympic process w/ much positivity or as a learning experience. In youth we might enter sport for athleticism but eventually it becomes far more convoluted
@dcrainmakerblog I have a theory that the person called Ray is actually an AI powered bot. No human can test so many devices in such short time frames with so many workouts, never break their body and still have time to write such detailed reviews. Unless they are an super intelligent alien bot..
