From my years of studying philosophy, which always involves consideration of human nature and the question of governing these "nasty ,brutish..." beings, I've studied "government".
The framers of the US Constitution were scholars with classical educations.
They borrowed from writers and existing governments when creating ours.
Their intention in creating the Supreme Court was for it to be resistant to populism.
Life-time appointments a result.
Long term wisdom,they thought.
We've now seen with the distortion of the appointment process that the purpose of life-time terms can be perverted when a party puts their heart (sic) into it.
Term limits for Supreme Court justices is required now.
Additional justices might help . Nothing magic about the number 9.
More justices with unlimited tenure eventually runs into the same problem we face now.
My larger point is brilliant work setting up this Constitutional government but deviant minds have ,after all of these years, figured out how to play it like street corner three card monty.
To the framers, looking around your populace at the time,you could not have foreseen this mind set.
The worst of our character with limitless funds have risen to the bottom.
Time to make a course correction.
