To be honest I her not tried non-fiction yet. Probably you are right, they are not ideal, but maybe it could work if you are on a re-reading.
Here is the lesson I learned:
Simple acts do make the difference.
There is a reason why I've been able to build such a good morning routine. And it's not goodwill. This can help you once, but not forever.
Don't undervalue these small actions.
This morning I got up at 6:45 though my alarm was set for 6.
This was because my mobile was on my bedside. I took it and started to scroll Twitter without minding the time going by.
Here is what I learned:

I thought it was easy for me to get up rapidly, even without an external push.
Nothing could be more wrong.
