3 years ago when I was part of the executives of a masjid, we had organized a pre-Ramadan fundraiser. During the program, some people requested for a Masjid Cashapp as it was the most convenient way for them to make donations. Unfortunately, the masjid had no Cashapp account, while I had one, I was hesitant to release it to avoid mixup of funds.
We reached a compromise that I should open a temporary account for the day and give it to the requesters. I did, we completed the fundraiser.

A few days ago, my wife was trying to open a cashapp account, but she kept getting a message that she already has an account. After efforts to get access to that account, we found $721 in it. We checked the transaction history only to realize that the funds were deposited 3 years ago.

There and then I remembered that during the frenzy of fundraising 3 years ago, I had used my wife’s phone number to open that account. None of the other executives nor myself remembered the stopgap account because it wasn’t part of our registered accounts.

Alhamdulillah, efforts are being made to return the money to the masjid. I have called a few of the members of the exco back then to inform them of the funds, to liaise with the new exco and to apologize for the oversight.

I pray we all can be forgiven and that the money is more useful now than it would have been 3 years ago.

Research arm of residency application gets so much attention than it deserves. But limiting applicants to only listing 5 publications will not solve it.

ERAS should limit the number of publications an applicant can list to five and instruct applicants to list their five most important. This would help prioritize meaningful research contributions on a few projects and disincentivize the current arms race of publication padding.

Today we remember Dr Michael Umoh, one of many doctors that have died with suspicions of stress related illness due to the inhumane long working hours (48hrs straight) of doctors in Nigeria. A house officer with barely a month to complete his internship slumped to his death after a 48hr call as alleged.

6 months after his death, these inhumane practices still continue in our hospitals. May his soul rest in peace 🙏🏻@MDCNOfficial @Fmohnigeria @FatimaKyari @muhammadpate
