Migrant women with no recourse to public funds are excluded from accessing welfare benefits, including housing benefits, and therefore find it near impossible to access refuge spaces. For context, only 4% of refuges are open to those with no recourse to public funds.

Students at every University in the country should be organising rent strikes and occupations, the marketisation of higher education is failing every one of us. They increase prices to push up their own profits
John Owens trivia #7- Staff members regularly leave confidential files out on their desks where anyone could see them.
Unrelated note, the University has projects organised by BAE Systems, BP, Blue Bear Systems Research Ltd, MDBA Missile Systems, and has contracts with MITIE
time reading it, and your support.

We believe the lecturer cancelled the lecture. The students are now handing out information to other students.
📣📣📣📣📣📣
We are at the University of Manchester with students who just walked out of their lecture to protest the racism they’ve experienced or witnessed within their journey.
They’ve put together an open letter to sign, they recognise it’s a long read, and appreciate your

@BeWhacked@rentstrikeUoM *squints* Let me get this right: the government increased loans by 2%, but the university upped rent by 6%, and food prices have gone up 13%, and you're wondering why students are acting like they're poorer now than you were in the past?
📣 Tomorrow 📣
Tomorrow, some students in Manchester are set to take walk out action to protest the racism they’ve experienced on their educational journey.
They feel nervous, and though it’s without context, we’d love you to like this to simply show them they’re supported.
@Malum_Teod @rentstrikeUoM Have you forgotten about how UoM security harassed and attacked a student in 2020 🤔 if their job is actually interfering with the safety of students, then maybe UoM should look into better security officers.
🚨BREAKING🚨
UoM security block all food getting into John Owens building and use physical threats against non strikers, one is quoted saying “if you want to get to them, you’ll have to go through me”
First intimidating female students, now using threats of physical violence🤔
UPDATE: 38 hours into the occupations, and we are holding out strong!
John Owens is still locked down, no university staff or security have been able to gain access yet. MECD & Sam Alex are open to students, so come join one of our workshops or drop by to have a chat today!
BREAKING: We are occupying three university buildings!
Our demands are simple:
- UoM must give in to the rent strike demands
- UoM must give each student a £1,500 to keep up with the maintenance loan in line with inflation
- UoM must give in to the UCU demands.
