1876. Wyoming Territory.
Insanely unique photo of a wounded man being carried behind a horse in 1876.
This is a wounded soldier being transported on a travois after the Battle of Slim Buttes, part of the Great Sioux War of 1876.
By then, the Plains were fully at war.
That summer had already seen Rosebud Creek and the stunning Lakota and Cheyenne victory at the Little Bighorn. The Army kept pushing north and west, while Lakota and Cheyenne bands fought to defend their people, hunting grounds and way of life.
There were no helicopters.
No ambulances.
No trauma teams waiting ten minutes away.
If a man went down, somebody had to get him out with whatever they had.
A horse.
Two poles.
Rawhide.
And another man refusing to leave him behind.
How we carry the wounded has changed.
Our instinct to save a brother has not.
Abraham Lincoln once asked General Winfield Scott this question:
“Why is it that you were once able to take Mexico City in three months with five thousand men, and we have been unable to take Richmond with one hundred thousand men?"
“I will tell you Sir, said General Scott”,
"The men who took us into Mexico City are the same men who are keeping us out of Richmond."
Wow did you hear what those Republican congressmen said to that bad guy in the hearing? Lol man they really ripped him apart. It was so awesome. What’s that? Oh no the bad guy won’t be arrested or charged with any crime or suffer any consequences of any kind at all. No, there will be no follow up on the hearing, no relevant legislation passed in response to it, no changes of any kind made at all ever. But did you see that viral clip of that one senator? He even used a cuss word! A real cuss word! He’s so tough and brave. I’m so impressed. Aren’t you?

There's a 10 year old kid with two ridiculous first names running around Oxford that HAS NEVER seen OM win the season series vs. State.
Goodness, dominating this "rivalry" never gets old.

Secretariat, the Belmont Stakes, 1973. If you know it, it never gets old. If you don’t, sit your ass down and watch the fastest horse God ever put on this planet run the best race of his life.
The famous "Malfunction Junction" where five streets converged on campus 🚦 It's been almost 20 years since the intersection was dismantled. Who remembers it?
