🇦🇺🇦🇫 Helmet-camera footage from a 2012 Australian SAS raid in Afghanistan shows former soldier Oliver Schulz firing three shots at Dad Mohammad, an unarmed Afghan man lying on the ground in a wheat field in Uruzgan Province.

The footage shows Mohammad being attacked by a military dog before the animal is called off. Schulz then approaches him with his rifle and asks three times whether he should shoot before firing at close range. No weapon is visible in the footage.

Mohammad, who was in his twenties, was the father of two young daughters, including a newborn. The incident occurred on May 28, 2012, but the footage became widely known after ABC's Four Corners broadcast it in March 2020.

The recording became key evidence in a criminal investigation. Schulz was charged with the war crime of murder in March 2023 and has pleaded not guilty. His defence has indicated it will argue that he was following orders.

The case remains before the courts, and the allegations have yet to be determined at trial.
