The Wisdom Behind Purdah

Beloved Huzoor (aba) explained the importance of both men and women exercising caution and acting upon the Islamic injunctions:

“In this Western society, some raise objections to this as well, asking why Allah the Exalted has enjoined that a woman should cover herself, not take part in mixed gatherings, and that men and women should not sit together. Because when this happens, circumstances will arise where a man’s thoughts will continue to become impure.

Furthermore, such matters develop—as we have seen—that well-settled homes are destroyed, and relationships are broken. Therefore, women need to exercise caution, and men also need to exercise caution.

Complaints are received from some women that men ask them to remove their 'purdah'.

Thus, men ought to reflect, understand, and pay heed towards acting upon the Islamic injunctions.”

The Philosophy of Istighfar

Beloved Huzoor (aba) explained the importance and philosophy of seeking forgiveness from Allah through istighfar:

“Similarly, as I have mentioned earlier, when people would ask for prayers regarding debt, or for children, or when people asked the Promised Messiah (as) for prayers, he (as) would always say to them: "You people should recite 'istighfar' [seeking forgiveness from Allah] in abundance."

In one place, he (as) stated:

"Recite 'istighfar' a great deal. There are only two states of man: either that he does not commit sin, or that Allah the Exalted protects him from the evil consequences of that sin. Thus, at the time of reciting 'istighfar', regard should be paid to both meanings: firstly, that one should seek from Allah the Exalted the covering up of past sins; and secondly, that one should seek the ability from God that He may safeguard one from sins in the future.

However, 'istighfar' is not fulfilled merely by the tongue; rather, it is required from the heart. It should not be that it was uttered verbally whilst the heart remained void of it. Perform 'istighfar' from the heart; and when 'istighfar' is from the heart, a person will not incline towards sins again."

So, this is the philosophy of 'istighfar'. People ask: "How can one know that our 'istighfar' has been accepted?" If the 'istighfar' is from the heart and Allah the Exalted has accepted it, then a person cannot possibly turn towards sins.”

Blessed to Witness the Promised Era

“With the advent of the Promised Messiah (as), Allah Almighty fulfilled many other prophecies. He states:

‘If you possess faith, be grateful and perform prostrations of gratitude, for you have chanced upon the epoch in whose eager anticipation your noble forefathers passed away, and in whose very yearning countless souls departed from this life.’

The Muslim scholars and saints of old continued to wait for the advent of the Promised Messiah (as), yet they were unable to witness his coming. He states that you are fortunate to have witnessed that era, so be grateful to God Almighty.

‘It now lies within your hand to appreciate it or not as well as to benefit from it or not.

I shall proclaim it time and time again – the declaration of which I cannot refrain from – that I am the very one who was sent at the appointed time for the reformation of mankind, so that the faith might be firmly planted afresh within the hearts.’

If only those who oppose him and those Muslims who do not accept him would understand this, and, while expressing gratitude to Allah the Almighty, accept the one sent by Him and bind themselves together in the bond of unity, so that they may be saved from the difficulties through which Muslims are passing today.”
