@willnc1x @isoboy @DrewPavlou And before the Sino-Soviet split the USSR provided a lot more aid to China than to India, and in the 70's China became a much closer Ally to the USA, so I don't think its fair to say india just had better relations with the superpowers.

India suffered huge losses from WWII and the partition and it's not clear china had better relations with the major powers. Before the Sino-Soviet split China had better relations with the USSR and afterwards it had better relations with the usa.
