BTalk is cheap,” says Works Minister David Umahi as the Federal Government moves to begin construction of the new Carter Bridge and accelerate restoration of Eko Bridge in Lagos.
TALK IS CHEAP — UMAHI TO PRESIDENT TINUBU'S CRITICS AS FG MOVES TO COMMENCE NEW CARTER BRIDGE, RESTORE EKO BRIDGE
The Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, has reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to restoring critical infrastructure in Lagos State, while applauding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's leadership and vision in driving transformative projects across the country.
Speaking during an inspection of ongoing federal road and bridge projects in Lagos on Thursday, June 18, 2026, the Minister disclosed that work on the rehabilitation of Eko Bridge is progressing steadily, while mobilization for the construction of the new Carter Bridge is expected to commence this month.
Umahi, who began the day's inspection at Eko Bridge, recalled that the bridge suffered significant damage due to a series of avoidable incidents, including a fire caused by trading activities beneath the structure and repeated collisions by heavy-duty trucks because of inadequate headroom clearance.
According to him, the Federal Ministry of Works has adopted engineering solutions aimed at accelerating the reconstruction process without compromising quality and safety.
"Today, we saw the rebuilding process and, to save time, we decided instead of using concrete beams, we would use T-beams," the Minister stated.
He emphasized that every stage of the project would be closely monitored to ensure strict compliance with engineering designs and construction standards.
"At every stage of that construction, I must be informed to ensure that the engineering design is followed and that the method statement given to the contractor is also followed." he said.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, successfully completed the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.
It’s ready for official commissioning.
This video speaks for itself, loud and clear.
The project was executed through the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda’s commitment to modern infrastructure and national development.
Watch and see the transformation.

@SaharaReporters At the same time, public officials also owe Nigerians transparency and clear communication to prevent room for rumors and misinformation
@ParallelFacts If anyone believes an electoral institution has been compromised, the appropriate approach is to present evidence to the relevant authorities, courts, or the public for scrutiny.
@_dinomelaye Democracy is not about hatred for a particular leader; it is about presenting a superior vision. If critics truly believe Nigerians want change, they should spend more time explaining what they would do differently and less time chanting political slogans
@channelstv The opposition should focus on presenting practical security solutions rather than exploiting the pain of victims to score political points. Families affected by insecurity deserve action, not political theatre
