When you see a sentiment like this expressed, you understand the average Nigerian's view of politics & governance very clearly.

Because it is the government.

It is literally the job of the government to enforce law and order, the purpose of which is to, over time, condition the behaviours of the citizenry. The fact that people cannot see this, or refuse to, is utterly puzzling.

This is why we speak of elections like it's the Champions League final, or Messi v Cristiano Ronaldo. For some strange reason, the idea that our political office holders are responsible for the quality of our lives is inconceivable to even the schooled among us.

Why is it that you can pinpoint Mao as a murderous leader in history, but you never think about King Leopold slaughtering and torturing 15 million Congolese, having their limbs severed, all for rubber quotas, or that, under Nixon, Laos became the most bombed country in history?

Why is it that you can say communism killed 100 million as though it is fact, but when you're confronted with the reality that the genocide of the Indigenous people of Turtle Island alone exceeds 140 million, you refuse to attribute it to capitalism?

Why is it that you can recite these alleged crimes of communism without any investigation but with so much conviction, and yet none of the millions of verified atrocities over hundreds of years ever get laid at the feet of capitalism?

‘Managing’ is putting it lightly. Iraq’s oil revenue is deposited into a bank account in New York under U.S. supervision. The funds are then released to Iraq as physical U.S. dollars, flown into the country on cargo planes.

On several occasions, billions of dollars have gone missing with little or no meaningful accountability.

It gets worse. The U.S. can, and has, withheld access to these funds when Iraqi politicians pursued regional or domestic political alliances that Washington opposed.

Think of that for a minute. Is there a single country in the world where China or even Russia does this?
