One of the truly admirable things about the soviet union is that instead of lionizing the culture of the proles, they tried to elevate the commoners through mass consumption of high culture. A return to that among the western left would be most welcome.
A historically accurate film of The Odyssey would be so horrifying no one would want to watch it. What he means is a sandals and British accent affair with aesthetics stolen from Gladiator.
There are Rohingya people living where I am and they have kids. The cutest little munchkins. So smol. They'd occasionally come by asking for mangoes from our tree.
I really can't stand this hate speech directed at the community. These are families man. I worry about them.
Tintabudi was just featured again in Dua Lipa’s collaboration with Google Maps. 💛
Interesting range of collection, from fiction, poetry, to philosophy, and technology.
Most non-Muslims in Malaysia have never heard of this man. I can tell you he is probably the most influential thinker among the Malay intellectual class who wants to establish a Malay-Islamic state. If you want to really understand Malay-Islamic politics, you need to read his books and his ideas. RIP.
It is to inform you with the unfortunate news that the greatest modern day Islāmic scholar and philosopher and one of the mujaddid (reviver) of the 20th century, Syed Naquib al-Attas رح is no longer with us.
إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
1. Jesus never claimed to be God
2. His prophecy of imminent apocalypse failed
3. The Gospels contradict each other
4. The historical evidence for resurrection is inconclusive
These are the beliefs of my guest, Princeton’s Dale Allison, after a lifetime of study.
These are not uncommon positions among New Testament historians as methods of historical criticism have overturned orthodox belief. What is uncommon here is how Allison has responded to his new beliefs. Whereas most scholars who arrive at these positions become atheist, Allison remains a practicing, devoted christian who follows Jesus. In a way, his religious practice has become even stronger due to these beliefs.
In this interview, you are going to learn how Professor Allison, after much struggle, came to these uncomfortable critical positions and what Christianity means for him now.

The risk of AI for education is not students cheating in exams, it is people in general cheating themselves into believing they understand things they don’t.
um, it seems that Sci-Hub .se domain has been finally blocked.
P.S. You can access Sci-Hub by alternative addresses such as https://t.co/HEgPDPvYtP (yes, this world needs alternative DNS and independent legal systems to ensure freedom - not a single world government)
I unironically think we deindustrialized because we listened to the economists too much rather than the engineers.
The technologists (Habibie, etc.) were right. Now instead of exporting planes, we’re exporting coal and palm oil.
This man was right all along.
Interesting! A minimum wage still leaves many just below the line. How fair is that?
Notably, Singapore doesn’t have a universal minimum wage
Bottom line: you can’t legislate higher wages. Increasing productivity is only sustainable way to increase wages @ATabarrok
Someone on Reddit just revealed that an IIUM professor published a research paper about ancient Greek and cited THE ONION! Peer review dia hantar kat sanak saudara baca ke?

93 migrant workers who came here for honest work finally got what they were owed. RM760k in unpaid wages. Their lawyer, Sahain Nada Puthucheary, only 28, fought pro bono and won. The world could use more people like him.
Will I get a good income out of doing a PhD? Of course not.
But will I at least also find a stable job that allows me to pursue my research? Also no.
But will I at least be happy doing what I like? Hahaha also no.
Sounds terrible. Where do one sign up?
“If you look at H*mas's record while it was in power, it tried diplomacy, it failed. It tried international law, it failed. It tried non-violent civil resistance..it tried everything. So under those circumstances, what was it supposed to do?....”
—Prof. Norman Finkelstein
After two years of unimaginable loss and suffering for Israeli families and the people of Gaza, we should all be encouraged and relieved that an end to the conflict is within sight; that those hostages still being held will be reunited with their families; and that vital aid can start reaching those inside Gaza whose lives have been shattered. More than that, though, it now falls on Israelis and Palestinians, with the support of the U.S. and the entire world community, to begin the hard task of rebuilding Gaza – and to commit to a process that, by recognizing the common humanity and basic rights of both peoples, can achieve a lasting peace.
“It turns out it was not a grizzly bear and she said, “You won the Nobel Prize!”
Yesterday Fred Ramsdell was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine but, at the time, he and his wife were completely off-grid camping in Yellowstone National Park.
Unsurprisingly when they finally returned to an area with phone service the messages poured in. Ramsdell talked to us on his way home from Yellowstone, sharing how a day that began with wildlife spotting can end up with the Nobel Prize.
