Following last week’s historic contract awards for the rehabilitation of the Challawa and Tamburawa water treatment plants aimed at restoring 83% of greater Kano water supply where the work is already underway.
In line with His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's commitment in ensuring all the three treatment plants are fully restored to their full capacity, I visited the Watari treatment plant which has the capacity to produce 70 million litres of water a day, supplying the remaining 17% of the total water supply within Kano city 50km radius.
Watari plant is a crucial asset; primarily designed to serve the Greater Kano water corridor together with Challawa and Tamburawa, it also serves Bagwai, Bichi, and Tsanyawa LGAs.
Our technical assessment confirmed that while it has a designed capacity of 75 Million Litres Per Day (MLD), it is currently functioning at approximately 50%. We are focused on bridging this gap to restore full operational capacity.
I am assuring all residents in the affected communities that the administration of Gov. Abba K Yusuf is resolute in its mission to end water scarcity. We are prioritizing sustainable solutions to ensure a reliable supply of safe, potable water to all

The arrest of @Waspapping_ and Affan is a pure violation of Nigerians fundamental rights. They have every right to make constructive criticism against Nigerian leadership, insecurity, and foreign countries affairs as long as they will do it within Nigerian territory.
I have learned that the lawless Department of State Services (DSS) has arbitrarily and unlawfully detained a social media influencer known as Sarki @Waspapping_.
He was reportedly arrested over comments he made about the Israel–Iran war, particularly criticisms directed at the State of Israel over its egregious warmongering and crimes against humanity in Gaza and elsewhere.
No Nigerian citizen should be arrested or detained simply for expressing opinions about the actions of foreign governments or commenting on ongoing international conflicts. Freedom of expression must apply equally to discussions about global affairs and acts of war involving foreign interests.
The DSS must therefore immediately release Sarki @Waspapping_ and end this unlawful detention.
Nigeria cannot claim to be a democracy while citizens are arrested for expressing views on international events.
