@PIDEpk hosted officers of the 𝟓𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞 (𝐂𝐓𝐏) 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲 (CSA) during their Islamabad Study Tour for an in-depth dialogue on Pakistan’s governance and policy challenges.

Vice Chancellor 𝐃𝐫. 𝐍𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐦 𝐉𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐝 (@nadeemjavaid75), urged young officers to move beyond colonial-era administrative habits toward problem-solving, data-driven, and citizen-centric governance. He highlighted that Pakistan’s most urgent challenges — rapid population growth, child stunting, poverty, weak productivity, and declining living standards — cannot be solved through files and procedures alone, but through evidence, innovation, and systems thinking.

He reminded the young officers that Pakistan is adding over six million people every year, while job creation, urban services, education, and health systems are not keeping pace — making smart public policy the country’s first line of defense against instability.

𝐃𝐫. 𝐊𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐦 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐧 (@karimeconomist), 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐧 (𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐬), showcased #PIDE’s growing role as Pakistan’s national policy lab, preparing a new generation of economists, analysts, and civil servants to connect research with real-world governance.

𝐃𝐫. 𝐒𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐛𝐢𝐫 𝐀𝐤𝐛𝐚𝐫 𝐙𝐚𝐢𝐝𝐢, 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 (𝐂𝐓𝐏 & 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠), Civil Service Academy, emphasized that in today’s complex policy environment, research literacy is no longer optional for civil servants — it is a core public service skill.

The visit concluded with interactive syndicate sessions led by #PIDE faculty and policy experts, where probationers engaged with live policy challenges, experiencing how evidence-based decision-making can transform public administration from rule-keeping to nation-building.

The Economic Reset: A Monetary Model for Debt & Deficit-Free, Stable Growth.

@PIDEpk hosted a seminar featuring Mr. Qanit Khalilullah (@QanitKhalilull1) who presented his proposal for a Full Reserve – Interest-Free Money & Banking System aimed at helping Pakistan tackle debt, inflation, and currency instability.

- Commercial banks to maintain 100% reserves from deposits
- Commercial Banks to shift from lending model to profit-sharing investments
- Money creation by the central bank only

The Pakistani delegation, led by Dr. Nadeem Javaid (SI) (@nadeemjavaid75), Vice Chancellor @PIDEpk & Member Planning Commission, successfully concluded a two-week training program in China on “Retracing the Ancient Silk Road between Pakistan and China.”

Hosted by the National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC), the program offered powerful insights from Xinjiang’s remarkable transformation and Beijing’s strategic planning. From Urumqi’s harmony of tradition and modernity to Khorgos’ cross-border trade hub, from mechanized farming and smart irrigation to renewable energy leadership and industrial upgrading—the delegation saw how vision, policy consistency, and innovation can turn challenges into engines of growth.

At the closing ceremony, Dr. Nadeem Javaid emphasized that CPEC Phase-II must internalize these lessons—expanding into industry, smart agriculture, renewable energy, advanced technology, and socio-economic development.

The visit underscored that the Pakistan-China Iron Brotherhood continues to thrive as a living partnership—anchored in trust, shared prosperity, and a common commitment to a sustainable future.

Dr. Nadeem Javaid, Vice Chancellor PIDE, along with his team Dr. Shujaat Farooq, Director (Research), Dr. Mubarak Ali, Dr. Muhammad Zeeshan, Dr. Muhammad Faisal Ali, and Ms. Farah Naz met a delegation from the International Water Management Institute @IWMI_ . The visiting delegation included Dr. Steve Davies, Dr. Tahir Ali, and Ms. Iqra Akram.
The meeting focused on ongoing work and explored future collaboration on the Hydro-Economic Decision Support System (DSS) for agriculture and CGE-W modeling in the Indus Basin.

Key areas of discussion included:
* Rural transformation & efficient water use
* Investment decisions through CGE modeling
* Seed quality and availability challenges
* Crop diversification strategies
* The potential of deregulation to unlock economic value

Both institutions expressed a strong commitment to future joint research and policy innovation for improved outcomes in water and agriculture sectors.

The book explore the underlying causes behind Pakistan's economic challenges, moving beyond mere statistics to explore deeper issues. Initially focused on inclusive economic growth, the scope expanded to address a broader range of development challenges. In the next part of the book I examines why Pakistan has struggled to achieve long-term growth, identifying three key factors such as equitable resource distribution, the lack of focus on human resource development, and weak state capacity. The book aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of these challenges and offers insights into potential solutions for sustainable development in Pakistan.
