The Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) wants Pharmacists to take over superintendence of premises from Level 3 (Health Centres) up to Level 6, leaving Pharm Techns to superintend only at Level 2 (Dispensary) level. That is why PharmTechs are contesting this
To all Pharmaceutical Technologists,
I express my firm ✊🏾 solidarity with my colleagues who are disproportionately affected by the recently announced PPB GPP G/lines.
I'm lending my voice & support to ensure our workplace remains equitable for everyone.
Sincerely,
Moz Male.
POSITION STATEMENT ON THE ONGOING HEALTH WORKERS' STRIKE: INSTITUTIONALIZING SOCIAL DIALOGUE TO SAFEGUARD KENYA'S HEALTH SYSTEM
https://t.co/bZMiygfFyZ
There is talk about Kenya's Good Pharmacy Practice Standards #GPP2026 by @ppbkenya to ensure #PatientSafety. Here is the factual background from the standards, the Medical Institutions Rules and the High Court judgment. A thread🧵
Why can this happen?
Some cough and cold medicines contain ingredients that can sedate, slow breathing, or affect the heart and brain. In a very young child, even an apparently small dose can become dangerous because their bodies handle medicines differently from adults.
This is why you should never give cough syrup to a child under 2 years of age unless it has been specifically prescribed by a qualified clinician.
Many coughs in babies are caused by viral infections and do not need cough medicines. What they need is careful assessment, adequate fluids or breastfeeding, nasal saline and monitoring for danger signs.
A cough is a symptom. Don't silence it blindly. Find the cause.
Common problematic ingredients include:
•Dextromethorphan
•Diphenhydramine
•Chlorpheniramine
•Promethazine
•codeine and other opioids.
They can cause central nervous system depression, and suppress respiratory drive, potentially causing profound drowsiness, hypoventilation, respiratory failure and death.
For over 5 decades, pharmaceutical technologists have been handling HCP at all levels in our heathcare structure without any hitch. Suddenly,PPB/PSK come up with guidelines that aims at completely removing qualified pharmaceutical technologists from job market. Resist.
@ppbkenya
@ppbkenya just to let you know, not a single pharmaceutical technologist will give you a single coin in licence fee until the satanic GPP and rescinded. We've unanim agreed on that.
We will NOT fund you to oppress us.
