For those who have been asking for a translation of President Ruto’s emotional speech in Bomet on Thursday, here it is:
“It’s not usual for me to speak in an informal way at a gathering like this, but allow me to say something.
Aron Cheruiyot has raised a concern, asking: what has happened to our person, our president? Where is he?
It’s a fair question. But let me ask you something in return. I am not at home resting. I am out here fighting a battle.
And let me be honest with you, you have made my work difficult. I have been going across the country, even kneeling before other communities, asking for their votes because I must secure enough support.
Yet the people who have let me down are some of you, my own community, some of whom are even present here today.
We have 1.8 million Kalenjins with ID cards who have not registered as voters. We also have 500,000 people from our community who are over 18 but have not even applied for ID cards.
That means 2.3 million people from our own community will not vote. Meanwhile, I am forced to travel across the country seeking votes, when I already have my own people.
Those who have not registered, what is the problem? Why should I struggle to seek support elsewhere when I have my own people?
Please, I am asking you, help me. Register.
So that I can at least have time to come back home and work for you.
Please, I am begging you. Do you want me to say ‘tafadhali’?
Please, help me. I beg you.”
Franklin Mukwanja: The 2027 general election centers on the youth who were at the forefront of the 2024 uprising. At the same time, some young people are being deployed as goons in politically instigated violence, undermining peace and security #CitizenDayBreak
Beyond being a platform for dialogue, @thePDFestival provides space for citizens and public institutions to connect and access services that strengthen our democracy. At #PDF2026, the @IEBCKenya was on site registering new voters, giving many young people the opportunity to take their first step into civic participation.
But registration is only the beginning democracy is strongest when citizens not only sign up to vote, but also show up and exercise that right when the time comes. 🗳️ #FormNiDialogue
The 8th edition of the @thePDFestival has evolved from boardroom and hotels where only a few political elites could access to open dialogue where it’s open to all - @mukwanja
With 536 days to the next General Election, key concerns remain on the country's preparedness to guarantee a free, fair, transparent and credible electoral process.
It is against this backdrop that the #UchaguziConsortium is today engaging Members of the @NAssemblyKE CIOC and JLAC committees to unpack the concerns and define interventions ahead of the ballot.

@MigunaMiguna In the court of public wisdom, what truly separates Oketch Salah from @MigunaMiguna in their posture towards the Late Raila — style, temperament, tone, attitude, or ambition?
Frankline Mukwanja – Exec. Dir., CMD: The most attractive candidate in the political field is President Ruto. He is leading one of the strong political formations (UDA and ODM). Raila Odinga left him in a vantage position, and ODM is cannibalizing; therefore, he doesn’t need to do much to weaken them #CitizenDayBreak
Frankline Mukwanja – Exec. Dir., CMD: Violence during campaigns and the election day is a concern. There seems to be laxity in the secrecy at the ballot and in assisted voting. IEBC needs to adequately review and enhance these structures #CitizenDayBreak
🇰🇪 CMD Kenya continues to strengthen and institutionalize democracy in Kenya by convening political parties, parliamentary leaders, and key governance actors. Through structured, solution-oriented dialogue, CMD Kenya supports political actors to prioritize collaboration, accountability, and citizen-centered governance. By creating spaces where leaders engage on substantive issues rather than personality-driven politics, CMD Kenya helps transform political competition into inclusive, actionable, and sustainable governance outcomes that respond to the aspirations of all Kenyans. 🗳️🤝
As part of our interventions, we are implementing the Kenya Institutional Strengthening Program (KISP), through which we seek to create inclusive spaces for citizens, political actors, religious leaders, and civil society to engage in structured, issue-based dialogue. These platforms not only amplify citizen priorities 🗣️✨ but also build trust in the democratic process by demonstrating that dialogue can lead to concrete action. Most importantly, this approach fosters local ownership, credibility, and legitimacy—key ingredients for sustainable political reform and active citizen participation in governance. 📊🏛️
Aligned with KISP’s objectives, the COIN-10 workshop brings together leaders and technocrats to consolidate priority issues under the 10-Point Agenda, develop monitoring and accountability frameworks, and integrate public participation into national reforms. The program is supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) through the Enhancing Local Governance and Inclusive Accountability (ELGIA) Program, ensuring that political commitments are actionable, evidence-based, and responsive to citizens’ needs. This engagement is a critical step toward advancing issue-driven politics and strengthening democratic consolidation in Kenya. 📌✅
Frankline Mukwanja: The Mulembe nation is about succession politics, about PCS Mudavadi and Wetangula being looked at as not good bargainers for the community.
IEBC should clearly define the role of super agents in elections.

By-elections: Counting The Ballots
Frankline Mukwanja: IEBC is sitting its main exam today, is it up to speed, will it reduce the trust deficit that Kenyans have had in the commission.

Frankline Mukwanja – Executive Director, CMD: President Ruto is using these by-elections as a continuous assessment to identify the allies he can rely on as he re-invents his team #ByElections2025
Good morning, Mr. President @StateHouseKeny, CS Chirchir @TransportKE. See how our national career @kenyairways looks unappealing (worn out seats feels like a wooden bench) and mostly empty. Mmepanga na Mmetenga ama bado ni salaaale?
