Today at the Ethiopian Embassy in Nairobi, I joined diplomats, the Ethiopian diaspora in Kenya, and friends of Ethiopia in a nationwide Green Legacy Initiative of planting 800 million seedlings in a single day.

Themed “Let’s Plant Hope” this year’s Ethiopian Green Legacy Initiative aims to plant 800 million trees in one day. Under the initiative of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Ethiopia has now planted more than 48 billion seedlings over the past seven years.

Ethiopia is at the forefront of climate diplomacy. The country’s green development model is attracting global interest and has contributed to Ethiopia’s selection to host COP32, a major international climate summit, a testament to the nation’s growing leadership in environmental action.

ኢትዮጵያ ዳግም ቃሏን ጠብቃለች። እንተክላለን ብለን ያቀድነውን በአንድ ቀን ከ800 ሚሊዮን በላይ ችግኞችን በመትከል አሳክተነዋል።

ይህ ውጤት ሀገር በጋራ ዓላማ በአንድ ላይ ሲተባበር ማሳካት የሚችለውን ማሳያ ነው። ዛሬ የተከልናቸው እያንዳንዳቸው ችግኞች ለቀጣዩ ትውልድ የበለጠ አረንጓዴ እና የበለጠ ጠንካራ የሆነ የመጪው ጊዜ ኢንቨስትመንት ነው።

ክቡር የውጭ ጉዳይ ሚኒስትርን፣ የጎረቤት አገራት አምባሳደሮችን፣ ሁሉንም የመ /ቤታችንና ተጠሪ ተቋማት የሥራ ኃላፊዎችንና ባልደረቦችን ያሳተፈ ስኬታማ የችግኝ ተከላ መርሃ-ግብር ዛሬ ሀምሌ 25 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም በቢሾፍቱ አካሂደናል። የዘንድሮውን የችግኝ ተከላ መርሃ-ግብር ልዩ የሚያደርገው ሙሉ በሙሉ ፍራፍሬዎችና ምግብ ነክ የሆኑ ችግኞች ላይ ትኩረት ማድረጉ ሲሆን በዕለቱም 4063 (አራት ሺህ ስልሳ ሶስት) የአቮካዶ፣ ዘይቱን፣ ብርቱካን እና ሮማን የመሳሰሉ ጠቃሚ የችግኝ ዓይነቶች ተተክለዋል። የተከናወነው የችግኝ ተከላ መርሃ-ግብር አካባቢን ከአየር ንብረት ለውጥ ከመጠበቅ ባለፈ፣ በሂደት ለሃገራችን የምግብ ዋስትና መረጋገጥ የራሱን አስተዋጽኦ ያበረክታል።

ከዚህም በተጨማሪ አገራችን በ2020 ዓ.ም የመጀመሪያ ወራት በምታስተናግደው 32ኛው የዓለም አየር ንብረት ለውጥ ጉባዔ (COP32) ላይ ለመሳተፍ ወደ አገራችን ለሚመጡ ከፍተኛ ቁጥር ያላቸው የውጭ እንደግዶች ቢሾፍቱ ከተማ ተጨማሪ ማረፊያ ሆና የምታገለግል በመሆኗ የተከናወነው የችግኝ ተከላ ከተማዋንና ዋና ዋና መተላለፊያ መንገዶቿን ጽዱ፣ አረንጓዴና ማራኪ በማድረግ የሃገራችንን መልካም ገጽታ በዲፕሎማሲው መድረክ ይበልጥ ከፍ ለማድረግ ከፍተኛ ሚና ይኖረዋል።

I had the honor of joining our Honorable Minister, alongside esteemed Ambassadors from neighboring countries and our dedicated leadership and staff from MoFA and its affiliated institutions, for this year’s Green Legacy campaign today in Bishoftu, where we successfully planted 4,063 (four thousand sixty-three) seedlings, today, the 1st of August 2026. This year’s initiative stands out for its exclusive focus on agroforestry and food security, featuring nutrient-rich fruit varieties such as avocado, guava, orange, and pomegranate. This strategic initiative goes beyond combating climate change; it directly strengthens our nation's agricultural sovereignty and contributes significantly to long-term food security.

Additionally, this campaign plays a vital role in preparing Ethiopia to host the prestigious 32nd UN Climate Change Conference (COP32). As Bishoftu serves as a key hospitality hub for the anticipated influx of international delegates and dignitaries, this planting drive transforms the city and its main transit corridors into clean, green, and visually stunning spaces, thereby promoting Ethiopia's positive image throughout the climate conference.

I was honored to officially launch a grand event to Promote Ethiopia in Nairobi, a significant initiative organized by the Embassy in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Tourism, Ethiopian Airlines and Ethiopia Kuriftu Resorts/Boston Partners PLC.

This two-day event marks the beginning of Ethiopia's magnificent tourism promotion campaign across Africa, with Kenya proudly serving as the first destination among ten selected African countries. This choice reflects the enduring friendship, all-weather partnership, excellent bilateral relations, and close people-to-people ties between Ethiopia and Kenya.

In my opening remarks, I emphasized that Ethiopia is not just another destination; it is the Cradle of Humankind, where the earliest evidence of our human ancestors was discovered. A visit to Ethiopia is a journey to the very origin of humanity, offering a unique opportunity to connect with the roots of our shared history and civilization.

I also highlighted Ethiopia's remarkable natural endowments. As the water tower of the region, Ethiopia is blessed with abundant water resources and shares the waters of seven major river basins with its neighboring countries, demonstrating our commitment to regional cooperation and shared prosperity.

I extend my sincere appreciation to all our partners and guests whose commitment has made this initiative possible. Together, we will continue to promote Ethiopia as a destination of history, culture, adventure, and opportunity.

በውይይታችን፣ የቀድሞው የኳታር መሪ ሼኽ ሐማድ ቢን ኻሊፋ አል ታኒን ሕልፈተ-ሕይወት ተከትሎ ክቡር ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር ዶ/ር ዐቢይ አሕመድ በኳታር በነበራቸው ጉብኝት ወቅት ለእሳቸውና ለልዑካን ቡድናቸው ለተደረገላቸው ደማቅ አቀባበልና መስተንግዶ ላቅ ያለ ምስጋና አቅርበናል።

It was a pleasure to receive H.E. Saad Mubarak Saad Al Jafali Al Naimi, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Ethiopia, at my office today, 15th of July 2026.
During our discussion, I expressed our profound gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to H.E. Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and his delegation during our recent visit to Qatar, which followed the passing of the former Leader of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
In addition, we deliberated on key areas to further strengthen the long-standing, multifaceted bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Qatar. The discussion lays a solid foundation for elevating the diplomatic and economic ties between our two friendly nations to greater heights.

It is with great pride that I join you today at the opening ceremony of this historic National Dialogue. This grand conference, which will bring together four thousand participants under one roof in the coming weeks, marks a historic opportunity for Ethiopia to obtain the “pen and parchment” with which to write a new chapter of its history by its own hand.

We are at a moment when we can break the cycle in Ethiopia’s political journey. A cycle that begins with inflammatory rhetoric and ends in violent action, and replace it with dialogue and discussion. I extend my sincere gratitude to the commissioners of the National Dialogue Commission for their invaluable contributions toward making this important undertaking possible.

This conference, which is founded on a bottom-up agenda-setting process involving hundreds of thousands of citizens, is a rare and remarkable event with immense significance in Ethiopia’s modern history. Through it, we have the opportunity to transform our challenges into opportunities and establish a lasting culture of peaceful transfers of power.

Today, we are planting good seeds that will benefit future generations, and we are ensuring that our children will enjoy the fruits they bear. As we participate in this dialogue, if we set aside our local interests and deliberate for the sake of Ethiopia, keeping our children and their future in mind, the outcome will be truly fruitful.

Together, let us cultivate hope, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence. By resolving our differences through dialogue and reconciliation within our own country, let us safeguard Ethiopia from external interference. I call upon all participants to achieve a historic outcome; one that will benefit Ethiopia, serve as an example for Africa, and bring genuine peace and relief to all Ethiopians.

Le 9 juillet 2026, j'ai eu un entretien fructueux avec S.E. M. Augustin Kibassa Maliba, Ministre de l'Économie numérique de la République démocratique du Congo. J'ai souligné, lors de cet entretien, les remarquables progrès accomplis par l'Éthiopie dans le secteur numérique, notamment en matière d'inclusion financière. Le système financier numérique Tele Birr a transféré plus de 43 milliards de dollars et compte 59 millions de clients depuis son lancement. J'ai également mentionné le fait que plus de 46 millions de citoyens se sont inscrits au Programme national d'identité numérique Fayda, que plus de 150 institutions sont désormais interconnectées grâce aux services numériques et que plus de 5 millions d'électeurs se sont inscrits en ligne lors des dernières élections nationales. J'ai par ailleurs annoncé l'ouverture, dans les prochains mois, en Éthiopie, de la première « Université d'intelligence artificielle Medemer » d'Afrique. Le Premier ministre Abiy Ahmed (Dr), qui a joué un rôle déterminant dans ces réussites nationales, a été nommé Champion de l'Union africaine pour l'intelligence artificielle et la santé numérique. Le ministre a, pour sa part, déclaré comprendre que l'Éthiopie, en tant que pays, a enregistré des succès dans le secteur numérique et que son pays souhaite également acquérir une vaste expérience dans ce domaine.

The primary goal of our Corridor Development Program is to make the lives of our citizens more comfortable and modern. The Corridor Development Project we visited in Arba Minch includes modern asphalt roads, street lighting, and digital display screens. The completed corridor infrastructure has now been put into service and has begun providing benefits to the public.

Our efforts to ensure our cities are more livable by integrating high-quality modern infrastructure with green development will continue with even greater commitment

በሳኡዲ አረቢያ የረዢም ጊዜ ፍርደኛ የነበሩ ዜጎቻችን በዛሬው እለት (ሰኔ 17 ቀን 2018 ዓ.ም.) ወደ አገራቸው እንዲመለሱ ተደርጓል።
በዚህም መንግስት በሳዑዲ አረቢያ እስከ 8 ዓመት ፍርድ ተፈርዶባቸው እስር ላይ የነበሩ 343 ኢትዮጵያውያንን ከሳዑዲ አረቢያ መንግስት ጋር በመነጋገር ተፈርዶባቸው የነበረው የእስር ፍርድ እንዲሻር በማድረግ ምህረት ተደርጎላቸው ወደ ሀገራቸው እንዲመለሱ አድርጓል።
መንግስት በሚከተለው ዜጋ ተኮር ዲፕሎማሲ በተለያየ መልኩ በተለያዩ አገራት መሰል ችግሮች ላይ ያሉ ዜጎቻችንን ደህንነት ከየአገራቱ ጋር በመነጋገር የማስጠበቅ ስራውን አጠናክሮ የሚያስቀጥል ሲሆን፣ ከዚሁ ጎን ለጎንም ከመካከለኛው ምስራቅ አገራት ጋር ህጋዊ የስራ ስምሪት ስምምነቶችን እየተፈራረመ ዜጎቻችን መብትና ተጠቃሚነታቸውን ለማረጋገጥ ሰፊ ስራዎችን እየሰራ ይገኛል።
ዜጎቻችንም የህገ-ወጥ ስደትን አስከፊ ገጽታ በውሉ በመረዳት፤ ክብር፣ መብትና ጥቅማቸው ተጠብቆ ራሳቸውን፣ ወገናቸውንና ሀገራቸውን መጥቀም የሚያስችላቸውን ህጋዊ መንገድን እንዲመርጡ በውጭ ጉዳይ ሚኒስቴር ስም ጥሪ አቀርባለሁ።

Today (24 June, 2026), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs repatriated Ethiopians who were serving long-term prison sentences in Saudi Arabia.
Notably, following intensive bilateral negotiations between the two governments, the prison sentences (up to 8 years) of 343 Ethiopian nationals were rescinded, and they have since safely returned to Ethiopia.
Through our citizen-centric diplomacy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to strengthen its efforts to ensure the safety of our citizens facing similar challenges in various countries by engaging with respective governments.
Simultaneously, our Ministry is working extensively to safeguard the rights and benefits of our citizens by signing legal employment agreements with Middle Eastern countries.
On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I call upon our citizens to fully understand the bitter reality of illegal migration and to choose legal pathways that protect their dignity, rights, and benefits, enabling them to benefit themselves, their families, and their country.

I commend the decision by the U.S Department of State to impose targeted visa restrictions on TPLF hardliners for their role in undermining peace, stability, and the implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement in Ethiopia.

This important measure sends a clear message that those who seek to derail the hard-won peace process, fuel instability, and obstruct democratic governance will be held accountable for their actions. It represents a significant contribution to the advancement of lasting peace and stability in Ethiopia and the wider Horn of Africa region.

The decision also serves as a strong warning to the TPLF Hardliners propaganda machineries such as YouTubers, TikTokers and as well as activists based in Europe and America, who continue to beat the drums of war, promote inflammatory rhetoric, and seek to foment conflict and instability in the country in pursuit of the political interests of Ethiopia’s historical adv
