Our team - Mr Matthew Williams and Dr Muhammad Gill has commenced the first sowing of cereal rust spreader rows at PBI Cobbitty for NVT assessment - Dr Davinder Singh @davs_singh. @theGRDC@GRDCNorth@GRDCWest@GRDCSouth@GRDC_NVT@GRDCWest
Got my favourite field day comment after explaining adult plant resistance (APR) last week (photo 1). ‘Yeah, but you are still losing green leaf area with APR!’ 🤔😤Response: then grow a variety with little or no APR (ie susceptible, photo 2). Problem solved. 🤣
Mr Matthew William from the Cereal Rust Survey team (PBI Cobbitty, University of Sydney) is currently on paddock visits across key regions: Wagga Wagga → Griffith → Parkes → Tamworth → Goondiwindi → Toowoomba. Keep an eye out.

Historically regarded as wheat-specific, Puccinia striiformis (which causes #striperust) can breach host-species lines under the right conditions.
The Australian Cereal Rust Control Program is supporting a coordinated response.

@agrobaz Thanks @agrobaz. Only other wheat stripe rust report so far this season in Sunmaster CWNSW this week. A few reports of STB as far north as Gilgandra this week also. Current wet weather welcome but will mean vigilance on leaf diseases. @pinnacleag, @BradBaxter1985@PbiCobbitty

Can’t wait to see our book in print. With 22 comprehensive chapters (419 pp), the book will be very useful to those who aspire to work on wheat rusts & genetics of disease resistance.
The book cover pic is the photo that I took in 2013 from a wheat field near Stornoway, SK.
Early detections point to a challenging year for #StripeRust if conditions persist.
That's the latest from @Sydney_Uni's Dr Mumta Chhetri & Professor Robert Park, who are urging growers to closely monitor weather in their area.
