SDPI files petition in the Supreme Court against the Waqf Act.

Despite strong opposition from political parties and going against the interests of 20 crore Muslims, the Union government has implemented the Waqf Amendment Act based on its numerical strength. The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging this Act. The petition was filed by senior Supreme Court lawyer Wajih Shafiq on behalf of the party's national vice-president, Mohammad Shafi. The President of India signed the Act into law yesterday.

Arrest of SDPI National President is Condemnable: A Political Vendetta to Suppress Opponents – Afsar Kodlipete

Hassan, March 4:
The Hassan Assembly Constituency Committee of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) staged a protest at Hemavati Circle, demanding the immediate release of SDPI National President M.K. Faizy.

Addressing the protest, SDPI State General Secretary Afsar Kodlipete stated that the arrest of the SDPI National President is part of a conspiracy by the BJP-led Narendra Modi government to suppress the nationwide movement against the Waqf Amendment Bill. He asserted that the NDA government, using the ED (Enforcement Directorate) and NIA (National Investigation Agency), will not be able to push them back even an inch from their struggle. Instead, this oppression will only strengthen their fight.

He further expressed strong opposition, stating that SDPI will continue its resistance against such authoritarian and anti-democratic actions with full strength and determination.

The arrest of the SDPI National President is nothing but an act of political vengeance by the central BJP government to suppress dissenting voices, he said. By making false allegations and misusing investigative agencies, the government is intimidating and oppressing pro-democracy forces as part of its political strategy. The crackdown on SDPI, which is leading the protests against the draconian Waqf Amendment Bill across the country, clearly indicates the government's intolerance toward the movement.

By misusing central investigative agencies, the arrest of SDPI National President M.K. Faizy is yet another anti-democratic move by the Narendra Modi government. This raises the question: How can the Prime Minister claim that India is a democratic country on international platforms while his government is silencing opposition voices? The misuse of central agencies against opposition leaders suggests that the government is shifting from democracy to autocracy.

In the past, even after prolonged interrogations by national investigative agencies, no concrete evidence was found against opposition leaders who were arrested. However, they were still taken into custody.
Since 2014, during the BJP's rule, the majority of political leaders subjected to FIRs, arrests, raids, and investigations have been from the opposition. Interestingly, leaders who switch to the BJP do not face any investigations.

For instance, when Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was in the Congress, the CBI and ED had registered cases against him in the Saradha Chit Fund scam in 2014-15. However, after he joined the BJP, those cases were quietly dropped. Similarly, before the West Bengal Assembly elections, former Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders Suvendu Adhikari and Mukul Roy were under ED and CBI investigation for corruption cases. But after they joined the BJP, those cases also disappeared.
This proves how the BJP misuses investigative agencies for political vendetta.

Now, as part of its continued political suppression, the central Modi government has illegally arrested the SDPI National President through the ED, at a time when SDPI is leading a nationwide protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill. This arrest is an anti-democratic and unconstitutional act, and SDPI strongly condemns it through protests.

We demand that the central government immediately release M.K. Faizy and withdraw from its anti-people stance. If this suppression continues, we warn that the protests will intensify further.

The protest was attended by Hassan Assembly Constituency President Shajeel Ahmad, District General Secretaries Syed Irfan and Syed Nadeem, Women India Movement District President Afrooza Begum, along with district committee members and caders .
