We famously denied Liverpool an unprecedented treble by beating them 2-1 in the 1977 FA Cup Final.
Let’s repeat the heroics by doing the same to Man City in June, since they’ll most likely win the Premier League & Champions League.
ONLY ONE TEAM CAN BE ALLOWED TO DO THE TREBLE.
@nWoWolfpacTV In fairness, your point on boxer vs. wrestler not drawing well has some validity, especially re:Ali/Inoki as while their bout sold out the Budokan Hall, it drew way below expectations in the US & prompted Vince Sr to book Bruno vs. Hansen to save WWWF from drawing a poor house.
@nWoWolfpacTV I’m high on using KSI mainly because he’s a big name in the UK and a major PPV draw. More people watched KSI vs. Logan Paul I & II on PPV than Rock vs. Cena I & II. That’s saying something.
@KingRomeo1984@nWoWolfpacTV Good idea!
And the finish of Goldberg vs. MJF with Wardlow interfering & costing Goldberg a title win can be used to set up Goldberg vs. Wardlow, another high-profile match between two larger than life heavyweights.
@nWoWolfpacTV Goldberg vs. MJF sounds fantastic but I wouldn’t include the career vs. title stipulation as I would prefer booking Goldberg in other high profile feuds down the line (if I was Tony Khan).
I would preferably book Punk/FTR vs. The Elite with Ace Steel as the guest referee.
@nWoWolfpacTV Wow! Really goes to show how hot biz was in 1980 thanks to the classic Bruno/Zbyszko feud.
So basically, Vince Sr’s REGIONALLY touring WWWF drew more 10k houses in the early 80’s than Vince Jr’s GLOBALLY touring WWF/E in the mid 90’s, mid 2000’s and 2022. That’s mind blowing!
@nWoWolfpacTV Very impressive. Looks like Triple H taking over the reins and the Bloodline storyline has sparked renewed interest into the product.
Some of the lapsed fans are returning to get a glimpse of a post-McMahon WWE & the company is converting them into regular paying customers.
@nWoWolfpacTV Also, what were WWE's three most successful years for number of shows with 10,000+ paid fans when Vince McMahon Sr. was running the show?
@nWoWolfpacTV In my opinion, here are some things Tony Khan should to generate renewed intrigue in his product & sell out Wembley Stadium:
1. Sign free agent, Bill Goldberg.
2. Announce the return of CM Punk.
3. Emulate Logan Paul’s involvement with WWE by letting KSI get involved with AEW.
@nWoWolfpacTV@metald83 John Cena was perhaps the last major World Champion from the era in which being a WWE Champion truly meant something because in addition to selling tickets, he also had to sell PPVs which was a major revenue stream for the company until the WWE Network made PPVs obsolete.
@nWoWolfpacTV@metald83 In my opinion, this is the biggest reason as to why being a WWE champion in 2023 means little in significance in comparison to being one in 1963, 1973, 1983, or 1993 since world champions of the present day are no longer obligated to pull the wagon themselves.
@nWoWolfpacTV Another thing that particularly surprised me was CM Punk vs. MJF didn’t win FEUD OF THE YEAR in WON awards.
Excellent promos, great bouts, & their dog collar match was the main draw for AEW’s 2nd biggest PPV even though Meltzer likes to pretend Page vs. Cole was the main draw.
@nWoWolfpacTV Honestly, that’s not even the worst take to ever come out of Bryan Alvarez’s mouth because in 2018, he laughably said that Austin and Rock were “under-utilised” in the Attitude Era.
Vince Russo and Jeff Lane covered that on episode 70 of Castrating The Marks (see submission #6).
@nWoWolfpacTV Interesting how PL became more competitive with time. In the late 90s it was just United & Arsenal. The 2000s saw the emergence of the Big Four (United, Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool) followed by the Big Six in the 2010s with the rise of Spurs and City. NUFC will make it Big Seven
