This morning at State House, I had the distinct pleasure of receiving a generous donation of 10 brand new, state-of-the-art ambulances equipped with the latest medical technologies including respirators, oxygen delivery systems, defibrillators and advanced patient monitoring units. These ambulances were formally handed over to the Minister of Health and Child Care for onward distribution across all Provinces to strengthen emergency response capacity and improve access to critical healthcare services. In addition, I handover 200,000 litres of diesel, which will directly support the effective deployment and sustained operation of these life-saving units.

This donation has been made possible through the generosity of an astute and maverick young businessman @wicknellchivayo who has a golden heart and continues to tirelessly support various key Government programmes under Vision 2030, which is anchored on modern healthcare systems that leave “No one and No place behind”.

I extend my sincere appreciation to @wicknellchivayo for this gesture, which exemplifies the critical role of the private sector in complementing Government’s efforts to deliver quality service delivery in the health sector. Such partnerships between Government and indigenous businesses reaffirm my administration’s matra that “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo”, and I urge other businesspeople within the private sector to emulate this gesture and exemplary conduct. My Administration remains resolute in its focus on strengthening the healthcare system and ensuring that Zimbabwe transitions to world-class health standards as we advance towards an upper middle-income economy by 2030.

The team at Sally Mugabe Hospital successfully removed a 4kg tumour from a tiny 4 year old patient who had a total weight of 17kg (including the tumour!!!). It was a complex operation that required well coordinated surgical, anaesthetic, nursing and other technical teams. Just before we started, I took time to discuss the surgical procedure and anticipated critical events with lead anaesthetist, Dr Gwaze. Towering head and shoulders above everyone in the unit, Dr Gwaze is a formidable but reassuring presence in theatre, composed during critical periods. Dr Mutambanengwe caught us deep in discussion and remarked that I looked shorter than David in comparison. Children with cancer often have good outcomes but late diagnosis often complicates care.

The concept of Africans eating 3 meals a day, is post colonial.
In pre colonial Africa, people ate whenever they were hungry.
In one of the letters from the English to their missionaries in Congo, the sender spoke of how the negro mind had no proper perception of time and if they were going to get them to work properly, they must introduce a system that stamps time as something to be feared, revered, and calculated.

One of the many ways they did this, was removing the access to meals and fixing it at different points of the sun.

Today, I had the distinct honour to preside over the handover of 10 brand new, State-of-the-art ambulances that will be deployed across all 10 provinces. This milestone reaffirms the Second Republic’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing public healthcare, modernizing health facilities and ensuring that no place and no citizen is left behind.

I also had to pleasure to handover 10 vehicles to the Provincial Chairpersons of our ruling Party, ZANU PF, together with US$100,000 for each Province to advance developmental projects in line with Government’s devolution and decentralization agenda. These resources will empower our structures to discharge their responsibilities with efficiency and to spearhead programmes that directly uplift communities.

This historic gesture was made possible through the generous donation of a young entrepreneur and outstanding philanthropist, @wicknellchivayo . His contribution is a shining example of how the youth in business can actively support National developmental projects, and such patriotic commitment must be emulated. With this spirit of unity and responsibility, I am confident that together we will deliver the aspirations of Vision 2030.

SITUATING AMERICAN BILL: Zimbabweans, this is a major development for our country. Really big if it comes through, as looks likely. It is not easy to get America to rescind a law with bi-partisan support. Both the Republicans and Democrats supported ZDERA, making it a consensual American law against Zimbabwe. It has been with us - a huge albatross since 2001 - augmented by similar laws in Europe and its vicarious applications in various jurisdictions which genuflected to punitive American Sanctions in practice. JOE BIDEN initiated moves to end this odious, spiteful law by not renewing THE EXECUTIVE ORDER which successive American presidents since 2001 renewed as a matter of reflexive anti-Zimbabwean ritual. That included the current President during his first tenure. Trump, it would appear, has decided to finish off what Biden began, making the rescinding of the law as bi-partisan as its beginning. Zimbabwe worked hard, persistently pressing against this law, both at governmental and non-governmental levels. Above, at the level of regional, continental and intercontinental levels. SADC went as far as designating October 25 a SADC DAY AGAINST SANCTIONS ON ZIMBABWE. Today, less than a month shy of the ANTI-SANCTIONS MONTH, and a few years after TANZANIA UNDER LATE PRESIDENT MAGUFULI (MHDSRIEP) sponsored this resolution binding SADC to agitate against ZDERA, the Americans have started moving towards that end. If you consider that US sanctions against CUBA have subsisted for over half a century, and that the designation of NELSON MANDELA as a terrorist lived on well into his Presidency, this development FOR ZIMBABWE can hardly be minimized. Even greater is the fact that we have emerged from it, yes scarred and bruised bodily, but intact in terms of our ideals and trajectory!! Read that against Gaddafi’s Libya, and you get what I mean. Of course we still chafe that our President is still on sanctions, meaning the foremost face of the Zimbabwean State is still constrained, but this development presages many possibilities ahead. While NOT YET UHURU, we hear the sounds of breaking shackles a short distance away. I write like one who had the dubious honour of being among the FIRST GROUP TO BE PUT UNDER ZIDERA and among the penultimate group to be removed from the same. Well done President ED Mnangagwa; your Policy on ENGAGEMENT AND RE-ENGAGEMENT HAS DELIVERED ITS ULTIMATE FRUIT! Well, not quite yet, but arguably just about to!!! #EDWORKS!!!!!
