Gnabry's reinvention in the SS role is brilliant to see. A proper Raumdeuter. Really smart at exploring spaces vacated by Kane and the wingers, he's also been so good at "drag-and-run" movements, has certainly learned a thing or two from a certain guy named Thomas...
⬇️A few takeaways from yesterday's match:
Interesting to see that Bayern didn't mind sacrificing their rest-defence structure in order to pin Madrid back. The fullbacks would push high into the half-spaces, often occupying the last line with the wingers high and wide.
Even though Vini Jr. and Mbappé pose a great threat on the counter, Bayern were aggressively committed to pinning Madrid back from the beginning. What would sometimes form a 3-man rest defense was Kimmich or Pavlović dropping into the back line.

Made by combining High Recoveries and PPDA in a single metric (HPI) + a scatter plot to observe how HPI relates to general control of games.
This is really, really interesting. Kone seems like a very promising player, I didn't know about this fact from the tweet below, though. As they say: ''The bigger the chaos, the closer is the solution.''
Kenan glides on the pitch. Every touch is already in preparation for the next action, as I once said here - good receiving wide in isolation to create through passing/dribbling, good carrying and dribbling centrally, supremely powerful and technical. The complete package.
