"Many times I've lied, many times I've listened. Many times I've wondered how much there is to know."
My tweets, especially the rants, are my own views alone.
Every other month, YouTube Music decides I need 11 mins of dancing punctuated by frequent "O ho"s and "Aye Haye"s. 'The algorithm' has many evils, but this is one of the few welcome effects.
@categorical_imp Take that idea a little further and you wouldn't invest in any of the top Indian equities in the first place (e.g., Reliance helping build refineries in US, Infosys selling to US-based customers, etc.)
Funding for public transport is “bail out”. Funding for coastal road that is free for car owners (who form a tiny minority of city residents) is “investment”.
This local Wolfdog joined an Olympic ski event and triggered the finish-line camera. This is Nazgul. He snuck into a cross-country skiing sprint this morning and raced the homestretch with some competitors before being escorted home. 14/10 someone get him a medal
@categorical_imp Hehe yeah, in a quiz many years later, I was too North Indian to know that Kasu, Panam, Thuttu were all (in different ways) words for money money. :)
@categorical_imp From what I gathered from his speech, he was denouncing any agreements between unequal powers (given great powers exempt themselves when convenient) and asking for a coalition of "middle powers". So this is largely in line with what he said, no?
Another sane, measured, point-by-point deconstruction and analysis by @kaul_vivek sir. Highly recommended reading if you're a little lost on what exactly the hoopla around quick commerce in the last week is all about.
The Zomato CEO's recent defence of the gig economy follows an all-too-familiar corporate script: cherry-picked statistics, averages that tell only part of the story, and a consistent deflection of accountability.

I read a quote from Reid Hoffman on how board games replace silence and keep the momentum of conversations - that was from 2017, referring to modern Euro-style board games like Catan. A great long-read on ancient board games also suggests similar ideas - 4000+ years apart :)
Several years ago, the Stylebook advised that you heat your oven, because "preheat" is redundant.
That might be true linguistically, but we heard you. Common usage in cookbooks calls for preheating.
Our guidance now says preheat is acceptable to refer to heating an oven to a specific temperature before cooking.
Bosses who are organised and energetic can handle more people than someone who is shambolic and tends to oversleep. But bosses who invest time in coaching their teams will probably want a narrower span than those bosses who don’t https://t.co/X9rrYgPrL2
Also, same dude spoke literally 2 months back, in Assam about "sabka saath, sabka vikas". Maybe it's a little confusing to then be unhappy that ~1/3rd of Assam's population is getting richer, in your own words?

Ah, same dude said that only a two-child policy can remove poverty and illiteracy in the same community. Looks like they found another way and that's not amenable to the Chief Minister? Don't we celebrate poor people getting richer usually?

While demographic change could at times be accepted, witnessing an economic shift ‘signals destruction’, said the chief minister.

This treatment of development as zero-sum-game ('they' get rich, 'we' get poor) is a well-worn playbook for some politicians. They always wanna be the underdog, even when they've been the incumbent powers for years.
I don't know if this constant "4-year-old who just learnt the alphabets and wants to show that to everyone" energy applied to serious money-related crimes (see image) is supposed to make us feel less annoyed about them.
Happy that India Women made the CWC Semis y'day! Pity how much rain has affected the tournament, though. 4 games were abandoned/ had no result due to rain. All in Colombo. NZ were in 2 - vs. SL & PAK. One would expect them to win both. If so, semis qualification would be on NRR.
This was depressing reading. With non-sequiturs and punchy deflections, the Deputy CM is rubbishing what appears to be (from the little we know so far) a good set of guiding principles, at least, on how to solve Bengaluru's transit troubles.
