Understanding the nexus of democracy, clan, and Islam is essential to understanding how Somaliland’s political and social order has been built and sustained over the past three decades.
#Somaliland’s stability did not emerge from a single imported model, but from a locally negotiated system where traditional clan structures, Islamic values, and modern democratic institutions were blended into a working political framework. This hybrid system continues to shape governance, legitimacy, and public trust.
In the context of current discussions surrounding the President’s recent visit to Israel, it is natural that there are differing opinions and interpretations within society. Such debates are part of a healthy political environment. However, they should be grounded in a deeper understanding of the foundational pillars of the Somaliland state.
As highlighted in “Somaliland State Building” by Ambassador Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Mohamoud, Somaliland’s state-building process is the result of deliberate institutional development combined with social consensus, rather than external imposition.
What has made Somaliland sustain 35 years as a democratic and peaceful country in the Horn of Africa?
It is because it has a strong foundation and an open space where everyone has a role to contribute and engage in discussion. Tonight, I attended an event that brought together intellectuals, academics, leaders, prominent women, and other members of Somaliland society.
Somaliland’s state-building journey is documented in a book written by Somaliland’s envoy in Kenya, Amb. Dr.Mohamed Ahmed Mohamoud , who has invested his time in this important work.
The author underlined, the understanding the nexus of democracy, clan and Islamic perspectives.
@Elior_Paul@Israel It is the time we work together for building strong peace and development for everyone. War is not solution, everyone need peace both developed and undeveloped countries. This what we want Somaliland to lead it.

The people of Somaliland stand united in support of what is beneficial for our nation and our future.
Today marks a significant moment in Somaliland’s history as President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Cirro) visits Israel, opening a new chapter in Somaliland’s engagement with the international community.
This visit reflects Somaliland’s commitment to building partnerships based on mutual respect, cooperation, innovation, and shared prosperity. It is a testament to the resilience, stability, and democratic progress that the people of Somaliland have built over decades.
History is made when nations look forward with confidence and pursue opportunities that benefit their people. May this visit strengthen diplomatic ties, expand economic opportunities, and contribute to a brighter future for Somaliland.
A proud moment for Somaliland and its people.
35 years of peace, unity, and resilience , Somaliland continues to stand tall with pride, dignity, and hope for a brighter future. Happy 18 May. #Somaliland
@KSAMOFA Somaliland’s position is clear: we make our own partnerships based on mutual respect and shared interests. Countries that rely on external protection to secure their own stability should not lecture Somaliland about sovereignty. We were born free.
@A_M_R_M1 Who is Saudi Arabia? Isn't the country that is under the USA protection, where Iran has deliberately and forcefully destroyed their economic sector how are they threatening other countries?
@sntvnews1 The statement issued by these countries ignores Somaliland’s long‑standing self‑governance. Somaliland manages its own institutions, security, and diplomatic relations, and its external engagements fall under its own authorities.
@MofaQatar_EN From this perspective, the recent statement by several Arab and Islamic countries appears to reflect their own geopolitical interests rather than the collective interests of African states.
@_AfricanUnion@ymahmoudali@AUC_PAPS There is growing confusion about whether the African Union is speaking with one unified position or whether some statements are influenced by the political interests of individual member states.
@BashirHashiysf Hey nigga, Bantu man. why Somaliland? Whatever you call Somaliland, the truth is that Somaliland is a role model for Somalia. Isn’t it shameful that after the Somali Republic collapsed in 1991, more than 34 years have passed and you still do not have a functioning constitution?
@nivcalderon Somaliland calls on all parties involved in the current conflict to immediately halt military escalation and urgently pursue diplomatic, peaceful solutions to resolve differences. The recent strikes and retaliations show how quickly tensions can spiral into broader violence.
@BashirHashiysf It may be necessary to clearly verify whether someone is Somali. After the collapse of the Somali Republic, many things changed, population movements, shifting community ties, and increasingly complex questions of identity. proper identity verification can be very important.
Only 28.2% of Africans can travel visa-free within the continent, while Europe enjoys full mobility. African countries must open borders to boost trade, tourism, and unity. Visa openness is an opportunity, not a threat. #AfricaVisaOpenness#AfricanIntegration#AUSummit2026
The @AfDB_Group will convene a joint high-level session on the Africa Visa Openness Index on the margins of the next #AUSummit. The newly released 10th #Africa Visa Openness Index shows that only 28.2% of Africans can travel within the continent without a visa.

@Abdulwahab_you What has brought Somalia to this stage today is the double standard of your president. He is part of the problem. He never allows Somalia to manage its own affairs. He claims to support the stateless people of Somalia, yet he does not want to see Somalia stand on its own feet
