So, today starts a new part of the @oiliapp and my personal entrepreneurial journey.

I’ve long heard about the concept of #buildinginpublic and documenting the startup journey as both fun and insightful…not to mention scary. I imagine you can completely kill your brand if you say/admit the wrong thing.

The risks notwithstanding, I’ve seen immeasurable impact in my personal life through authenticity and vulnerability.

Here we go.

@RobertKennedyJr addresses the health crisis in our country and its root causes and how he intends to address it. He also scolds the DNC for its anti-Democratic anti-free speech actions during the election.

It doesn’t matter whether you are a Republican, Democrat or otherwise. It is important for you to hear his words, not a short form (mis)translation by the media. We owe him as much for the work, sacrifice, and investment he has made in his campaign and in sharing his important message.

1. We’re in a category that isn’t cool or flashy.
2. We’ve post revenue with product/market fit, so in a much better position when it comes to taking on capital.

That said, @DanielPriestley point is spot on. We’ve been slowly warming to the idea of doing this without VC money—we’ve made it this far after all—and just taking on debt financing if needed.

Everything around us right now will be catastrophized, highlighting the negative—all meant to breed fear and anger.

The truth is we’ve always been messy and complicated—in other words, perfectly human.

At the same time as being capable of terrible, unthinkable behavior, we are equally and more often capable and guilty of immense beauty and kindness.

It’s everywhere around us, every day… all we need to do is make the choice to notice it instead of the noise—and it is a choice.

By every measurable standard this is the most peaceful, prosperous, amazing time to be alive in all of human history despite what those who profit from fear and division will sell you.

My gentle suggestion is to not entertain the darkness, but rather bask in the light of all that’s good and wonderful in your world.

@NaithanJones As an offering… Jonathan Haidt’s work, particularly in “The Righteous Mind” shows how this is how we are wired and have always been. Understanding that takes the catastrophe side of it away for me. We’re all perfect humans… meaning, perfectly messy, complicated, beautiful, etc

Why do you think that is?

Meaning, if a Founder has to juggle 100 things a day, as I imagine you are, requiring dawn to dusk effort, why not the serious VC?

I don’t say this to be combative, but maybe the high standard of work-ethic should be reflected back in the mirror?

Not saying it’s not, I’ve never been on the other side of the fence, but 5 deals a week seems like the remote “work” equivalent for VCs...
