@Gegam245074 I read this interpreting “Engineering” to mean actual engineering, and it made zero sense.
I read this interpreting “Engineering” to mean software engineering, and it made total sense.
@sebkrier I mean you can also do model comparisons within a Bayesian framework eg the Ockham factor or trans dimensional Monte Carlo with hessian balanced jumps between models. Though your larger point stands it just selects within a space that alternative models still need to be proposed.
The elites of Victorian Britain got up late, drank ceaselessly, worked short hours, partied through the night, and knew nothing about science, technology or engineering. And yet, by their own lights, they were hugely effective.

The Victorians are often held up as a model against the supposedly soft, feckless, humanities-educated elites of today. But I argue that the genius of their system may have been its drastic weighting towards soft skills, team-building and intra-elite networking:
- A Victorian’s gentleman’s office hours typically began about 11am and finished about 5pm, including a multi-course lunch with wine.
- Upper-class Victorians drank ceaselessly. Conduct guides recommended four or five glasses of wine at dinner *for married women*. Port was often served in pints.
- Party culture was intense and nocturnal. Balls started at about 10pm, peaked after 1am, and continued till dawn. During the social season, bankers, judges and politicians might go to several balls per week.
- Elite Victorians learnt almost no STEM at school or university. At least half of class time was given over to ancient languages, often as much as 80 percent. One leading educationalist remarked that it was not worth teaching science to gentlemen because it does not involve ‘continued reasoning’.
- Sports and character formation were valued far above transmitting facts. A top headmaster described his school’s priorities as ‘First – character, second – physique, third – intelligence, fourth – manners, fifth – information’.
This cannot have made elite Victorians more productive individually, but maybe the dense social and emotional network it created helped them to work as a sort of extended team.
Perhaps we should think again about what makes groups of people effective.
Consciousness is as the Buddhists observed simply the mind recursively observing itself as a kind of field which itself enters perception. Basically we are just Kalman filters.
the "Hard Problem" in a nutshell:
1. atoms aren't conscious
2. humans are made of atoms
3. humans are conscious
4. so at least one of 1-3 must be false
Panpsychists say #1 is false
Dualists say #2 is false
Illusionists say #3 is false
Materialists say #4 is false
Vitalik: AI Will Become the New UI
On October 6, 2026, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin @VitalikButerin said at OKX NOW @okx in Singapore that AI will become the new user interface in more and more scenarios. He shared how a local AI agent wrote a script to update his ENS hash in about five minutes, and said performing complex blockchain operations without a traditional UI will become normal.
This could reduce security risks associated with traditional frontends, while introducing new challenges such as prompt injection, AI safety, and whether agents correctly understand onchain operations.
This is deeply disturbing:
Anthropic secretly invited religious leaders to SF to advise them on AI safety, had them sign NDAs, but then primarily tried to convince them Claude has a soul & moral standing, all while wining & dining them to the max. 1/ https://t.co/4Z7Yk9rwk2
i think the toughest thing to understand is that it literally doesn't matter if your software is open source, closed source anymore - if it's closed source, people can and will RE: its internals, if it's a part of a broader suite, ppl will make it a plugin in their suite, if it's a model that people can blackbox fuzz and the model isnt huge and didn't have incredibly proprietary data, you are going to get copied on the tech
so every core product launch probably needs to be treated as an extreme countdown race, before the incumbent with the distribution eats you
brutal times to be playing, and extremely valuable/rare to find a corner of the stack that may be defensible and will stay defensible
@zengjiajun_eth Two reasons:
1) Lightness of action - you don't want to constantly have to think how will this action be perceived by family, friends, employers, employees, the mob....
2) Fairness - with things like prices anon means being treated as fairly as any other random individual.
@Bonecondor Dopamine rules everything around me.
....... How did Ameen Soleimani manage to fail to achieve PMF by combining crypto and porn in the only possible non addictive way.
It occurs to me that in the same manner as open source can be used by incumbents as a moat, AI vibe coding is a mile deep scorched earth defence zone around the few commanding heights.
Wow big
BlackRock is taking model portfolios onchain.
The $13T asset manager has built three portfolios — high-income, diversified growth and high-growth — that Ondo Finance will tokenize, giving non-U.S. investors 24/7 access via crypto wallets.
The portfolios hold mixes of stock, bond and bitcoin ETFs, with Ondo tokens tracking each strategy.
It’s the first time BlackRock has designed portfolios specifically to be tokenized by another firm.
Joseph is naming the real battle here: not another fintech feature war, but who owns the agent that sits between every human and their money. Spolier: it has to be you.
Our stack is now stablecoins + tokenized assets + DeFi + agents. Open rails and verifiable agent identity (and reputation, see Ethereum ERC-8004 -- Trustless Agents) are how that stack stays a commons instead of a new set of siloed walled gardens partitioning the financial system.
$1T of agent-handled financial activity by 2030, $4T by 2035 — and hundreds of billions returned to people via fee compression — only works if the agent serves the user, not the platform.
Web3, the emerging decentralized world wide web is (finally) the user-centric web, after all.
Ethereum is all about credible neutrality and censorship resistance.
MetaMask's Open Money OS (https://t.co/WbfKN3CDeU) focuses on empowering users and communities with financial agency -- full control over all aspects of their financial lives.
Sharplink grows share value as it grows ETH and Ethereum ecosystem value as it invests its permanent capital in the emerging Decentralized System of the World.
Very much worth reading the entire article.
