Politicians lack foresight. You increase term limits or whatever rubbish you would want to do with the constitution then boom, Fred M'membe becomes President.
And this is ultimately where the danger of political cultism lies. When leaders become accustomed to being surrounded by people who justify everything they do, they eventually begin to mistake loyalty for legitimacy, applause for approval, and power for permanence. The people around them stop telling them uncomfortable truths and instead become an echo chamber designed to protect the leader from accountability.
Just think about it: how do you support a government taking away the rights of some of its fiercest critics? What happened in that room? Did they all sit down, deliberate and collectively conclude that this was the most intelligent thing to do? And then the President reportedly laughs it off. Imagine a President getting excited at the prospect of his critics being stripped of their passports. 😔😔
But history has never been particularly kind to those who mistake temporary power for permanent authority. The Pharaoh may command the army, control the palace and believe the Israelites have nowhere to go-but eventually, every Pharaoh encounters a Red Sea.
That is why I have said before that Mr Hichilema’s Red Sea moment will come. Not because anyone wishes him harm, but because political power, like everything else, has an expiry date. When that moment comes, the entourage will disperse, the applause will fade, the excuses will no longer matter, and the carefully constructed narratives will have to face the cold light of history.
Every Pharaoh eventually meets his Red Sea. Hakainde will not be the exception.
FTJ rendered KK stateless- a man who was essentially a Zambian “unopposed King” for 27 years.
FTJ, himself, ran from court to court and finally to the pulpit.
Power, what a demon. Time, what a humbling and shaming element.
@Dora_Siliya Ignorance of @HHichilema's handlers who don't know the following leaders in @UPNDZM are from MMD: Musokotwane, Lungwangwa, Levy Ngoma, Chushi, Dr. Kalila, Kasonso, Samakai and Mutale Nalumango...Take handlers to political school.
@HHichilema Parliament is where laws on these issues are enacted..desist from whipping UPND MPs to abscond from the very reason they are there, to make laws. Life can't just be about me, and me only, because no one is there forever. You have refused to work with others on National matters.
What we need to make Zambia a true democracy:
• An Independent Electoral Commission
• Freedom of speech
• Press freedom
• End to the Public Order Act
• Impartial police
• Criminalize rigging

I disagree with @ssishuwa a lot, & some of his assertions really test my patience. 😂 But I’ll give him this; his contribution to our political conversation is important. We need people who challenge & make the rest of us engage, even when we don’t like what they’re saying. 🤝
