A lot of juniors ask me if they should learn Rust.

The reason companies like OpenAI, Cloudflare, Discord, AWS and others are betting on Rust isn't because it's the fastest language.

It's because bugs are expensive.

When you're running systems that serve millions of users, one memory leak, one race condition, one weird crash can cost more than the salary of the engineer who wrote the code.

So, don't learn Rust because OpenAI likes Rust.

Learn Linux.
Learn networking.
Learn operating systems.
Learn distributed systems.

Once you understand why systems fail, Rust starts making a lot more sense.
