Indeed, the way the world talks anyhow about Nigeria may look normal now,
but we don’t know how far we’ve fallen.

in the 1960s, Nigeria waged diplomatic & economic war against so-called superpowers, and gave the US itself actual jitters.

In 1961, Nigeria sanctioned France & expelled their ambassador for conducting unauthorized nuclear tests.

In 1979, Nigeria forcefully took over British oil interests, with expatriates scrambled under a 24 hour notice.
UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher rapidly modified her stance on apartheid.

Within a month, the US stock exchange suffered its worst plunge in 6 years. Headlines in the US, which depended on Nigeria for 17 percent of its oil, talked about ‘Oil Weapon’.

Up till the late 90s, unsmiling Abacha forced world leaders to plead & grovel diplomatically. In the field, I personally witnessed Nigeria-led ECOMOG dominating UN, EU & US operations across theaters of war.
