The Head of the State House Diaspora Unit, Mr Mohammed Bagonza, and his Deputy, Mr @HenryWabyona, are in Addis Ababa, #Ethiopia, where they are participating in the African Diaspora Stakeholders Forum.

Ahead of the official opening of the Forum, Mr Bagonza and Mr Wabyona, alongside other African counterparts responsible for diaspora services and affairs, were hosted to a welcome dinner at Toot Traditional Restaurant by the Ethiopian Diaspora Service (@ETDiasporaServ), an agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ethiopia.

During the dinner, they engaged with counterparts from Somalia’s diaspora services, holding discussions on areas of mutual interest and exploring opportunities for collaboration in diaspora engagement.

The African Diaspora Stakeholders Forum, organised by the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in partnership with GIZ, officially runs from today, April 30 to May 1, 2026, in Addis Ababa.

Convened under the theme, “Harnessing Diaspora Potential for Continental Development and Experience Exchange,” the Forum serves as a high-level platform for dialogue among senior government officials responsible for diaspora affairs, representatives of diaspora associations and networks, private sector actors, development partners, scholars, and civil society organisations.

The discussions will focus on experience sharing, policy dialogue, and exploring collaborative opportunities to strengthen diaspora engagement in the development of the Horn of Africa and across the broader African continent.

In addition to countries from the Horn of Africa, the Forum has attracted participation from Cameroon, Ghana, and Tunisia, recognised as best-practice countries in Central, West, and North Africa, respectively, providing an opportunity for cross-regional learning and exchange of ideas.

The Forum also aims to promote sustained dialogue and cooperation on diaspora engagement, strengthening collaboration among African governments, diaspora networks, and regional and continental bodies such as the African Union (@_AfricanUnion) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (@IGADsecretariat).

Today, the State House Diaspora Unit will launch the Global Diaspora Engagement Webinar Series.

This initiative is designed to bring the government closer to Ugandans living abroad through structured dialogue, access to timely information, and meaningful engagement.

The webinar series will be officially launched by Mr Mohammed Bagonza, Head of the State House Diaspora Unit, starting at 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (EAT).

We warmly invite all members of the diaspora to join this important platform as we begin a sustained conversation on issues that matter most, ranging from investment opportunities and government services to policy engagement and national development.
