Absolutely heart breaking! This is result of systematic negligence over the decades.
A simple Google search will reveal life threatening fire incidents related to expatriate accommodations dating back to as far as 2017. In 2022, 10 people lost their lives in a similar tragedy.
Yet, despite these repeated warnings, and very frequent near miss incidents, meaningful action has not been taken by any government.
The policymakers remain unwilling to address the key underlying conditions that continue to put lives at risk.
The progression of vulnerability to fire hazards in our society is increasing at an alarming pace, particularly in overcrowded or poorly regulated housing and even in high rise social housing towers.
This situation is being exacerbated by the absence of fire safety legislation and meaningful regulatory mechanism to enforce fire safety standards and hold those responsible to account.
