Your parents have land upcountry, livestock, poultry, crops, trees, etc. but they still need monthly upkeep from you.

Most people in retirement are asset rich but cash poor. Cash moves the world. You don't sell your chicken or livestock for community harambees, regular expenses, etc.

The solution has never been selling plots you acquired in your 30's, it's about building cash flow from them. Cash proceeds from asset sales can only keep you a while. Once a seller, you'll be left with nothing.

This morning I visited the Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA) in Mombasa, where I had the privilege of meeting with the CEO, Dr. Eric Katana. We discussed ways to strengthen collaboration in maritime education and training, with a focus on empowering young people from Taita Taveta County to tap into the growing Blue Economy sector. I was impressed by the Academy's state-of-the-art facilities and its vision to become a regional hub for specialized maritime safety training. As a leader, I'm committed to supporting initiatives that equip our youth with skills that can unlock local and international career opportunities.

In our discussion we touched on the pressing issue that affects many deserving students - the fact that BMA students are not beneficiaries of HELB loans. This has led to many students from poor backgrounds being forced to drop out due to unaffordable fees. I'm committed to taking up this matter and working towards finding a solution that will enable more students to access quality maritime education.

I'm proud to pledge my support for the Academy's mission and look forward to working together to create more opportunities for students from my county to access world-class training and thrive in the maritime industry.

The Shomoto, Mlondo and Mdundonyi slabs may arguably be the most best done road slabs in Wundanyi's history.

Nowadays, a slab cant last even in 3 years. Poor workmanship? Substandard materials?... I don't know.

One day, we will reclaim the ancestral lands taken by KWS through the expansion of Tsavo East and West. The time may come when the boundary will need to be reviewed and redrawn to reflect the realities that existed before 1948.

In the meantime, it is vital that there is an inclusive and transparent dialogue between KWS, local communities, and all relevant stakeholders. This process must prioritize the establishment of clearly defined boundaries, fair and just compensation for those who have been displaced, and the development of sustainable conservation strategies that respect both the rights of local populations and the need to protect our natural heritage.

Together with my coleagues in the National Assembly, we have started this very important conversation.
