People seem to forget how much of the work of prior genocides was accomplished by illness, rather than directly by weapons, and so to neglect the large and continuing role of the Israeli destruction of Palestinian health in the Gaza genocide
When we say media illiteracy, we need to specify that the "literacy" we are losing includes the ability to:
1. recognize mediation
2. discern irony (tone, framing)
3. separate effect from "intention"
All of these have to do with being able to read FORM.

If Katy Waldman reviews a novel, I will be there. One of the last great book critics out here. Study her. Thank me later. Oh yes, you can also study Adam Kirsch.
@kukukadoo Hi! I’m having a heck of a time trying to confirm my email after the signup step. 🙃. And I’m trying to DM you but I don’t think I can? (Boomer city over here it seems.) I’d love to read this - do you mind sending a PDF by DM? Thank you and excited to read!
This is a CT scan of my father-in-law’s head. It shows two pieces of shrapnel inside his brain and an intracranial bleeding.
The doctors in Shifa Hospital are unable to operate on him. He is still breathing but remains unconscious.
Uncle Jaleel (this is what I call him) went near the Zikim crossing, where people have been going to get aid. An israeli missile struck him and others.
His case is described as hopeless.
If he dies, his blood is on Israel’s and the US’s hands.
Uncle Jaleel is 55 years old.
He was a strawberry farmer.
Thanks to @mikerosenwald@nytimes for giving my girl the send-off she deserves. I will always be proud that I got to be her biographer.

“One day, when it’s safe, when there’s no personal downside to calling a thing what it is, when it’s too late to hold anyone accountable, everyone will have always been against this.”
This extraordinary, essential book hits US shelves today.
Just eight months from now, my first book, WRECKS, finalist for the @Noemi_Press Book Awards, will be out in the world!
I'm grateful to Noemi for believing in this book — @sargzem, Suzi F. Garcia, Anthony Cody, Mariah Bosch, and especially my amazing editor, @dianaarterian. ✨
On the third anniversary of the war on Ukraine, the @yalereview is publishing - I'm excited to say - a massive, ambitious new short story by László Krasznahorkai, that comes with an interview with @harikunzru. Brodernists of the world, this one is for you! https://t.co/g8h9CUuxkP
"We have lost everything in this hospital. Even our children. Everything we've built, they have burned. They killed my son. They burned the hospital entirely. I buried my son by the hospital wall."
